Heated Seats
« on: July 23, 2012, 04:16:36 PM »

The heated seat for the passenger on my Road Glide works great but it appears that after a few miles the seat turns off and turns back on after a few miles. I've taken it to Harley service several times and had a Harley service representative look at the bike. I was told that the seat is designed to turn off after it heats up and will not come back on until the switch is turned off then turn back on. This does not sound right to me. My wife says it turns on after a few miles without turning the switch off again. She says when we hit a bump it will turn off and on. Harley say there is no short with the wiring.  I wanted to ask the group if anyone else has this problem. Thanks!

Don't sound right to me, I have left mine on a couple times until it got real uncomfortable and it didn't turn off on me. But what do I know, I'm just the stupid monkey driving it!

Hey, that's just not right, mine starts with the low setting of Roast your A$$, and the high setting of Burning in Hell. I want one of your models, sounds much more comfortable.

Mine does in fact heat for about an hour and then shuts off, a quick flip of the switch off then on and it heats for another hour, over and over till the ride is done. And yes, the high setting gets pretty damn hot fast then low stays nice after that.

Mine stays on for about and hour then turns it self off and you need to reset the switch to operate  it again. But it gets hot on the high setting and according to my wife " is it working?" on the low setting

I agree.  Two settings.

1. Nuclear meltdown
2. Surface of the Sun

Never had it on long enough to know if it shuts downs.

There absolutely could be an open that bench tests just fine.  Not exactly real life environment.  Too bad they will not give you the benefit of the doubt if you're not happy.  Dats Harley!

If my memory is correct the manual states the seat will shut off after 1 1/2 hours of continuous operation.

I think Jerry is correct that the seat stays on for 1 and 1/2 hrs then shuts off it only did this once for me.  But is was 40 deg out.  I usually cant leave it on for that long.  It does get very very hot.  One time it didnt work it was because I for got to plug it back in when I had the seat off.  But lucky for me I didnt take it in and complain I would have felt like a butt head.  My first bike with a heated seat.  I never had it shut off and turn back on and neither has my rider.  Just wonder if there could be just a bad connection at the connector itself as if in terminal tightness or something along those lines.  Just a thought.  It is a pretty simple circuit.

page #62
Automatis Shut-Off
For safety, the heated seat is designed to shut-off automatically
after one hour of continuous use. The seat can be turned back
on immediately after auto shut-off has accrued with no harm
to the system. To reactivate the heated seat the seat switch
must be turned OFF and then switched back to the desired setting.
