Fork Lock Locked Up!!!
« on: July 23, 2012, 10:56:13 PM »

What a day! Took the day off and was going to get a lil ride in today. Went to run an errand 1st and stopped at a store, flipped the fork lock in the lock position and did not lock it with my key. Ran in and out and when I got on the bike and went to move the knob to ignition it tried to move but was gaulded. When bike was new I noticed only when going from off position to fork lock, it would feel like it was trying to gauld. This has happened to others here so if yours feels funny, don't play bring it in. Mine has been replaced once already. Back then I showed Service Manager and he said no sweat and replaced when it went in for service. Well today was not my day. At first I couldn't even get it off of the fork lock. Called the dealer who was about 3 miles away. They had the truck with the trailer on the road. They sent a young man out to tell me the switch is bad. :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2: I was able to get fork lock released and placed it to ignition but didn't have any power! Checked main fuse and forgot about the alarm and since I couldn't turn it on the alarm went on and off for about 5 minutes which seemed like hours! Waited on trailer, loaded bike and got to dealer. Mondays most techs are off so they gave me a ride home so instead of getting a nice hot ride in...I got to cut the grass! :D Also noticed left badge on fuel tank is starting to come loose toward the front of emblem. Oh well, maybe God was keeping something else much worse from happening today. :nixweiss:

Yeah, you didn't manage to screw your mower all up, too, did ya?! :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

Man, that sounds pretty crazy.  Never heard about that with the ignition switch. :nervous:  I think when (not "if") my tank badge starts to go, I'm gonna put the smackdown on it, myself.

When mine was new (2 months ago), I couldn't get the knob to turn to the lock position, and couldn't lock the forks.  I did a quick surgery (something involving a rubber mallet), and it has worked great since.  Definitely will keep an eye on it now though so I don't have the opposite problem!

JR, you know there is always a good reason why things work out the way they do.
God was keeping you safe.

Now hope someone got a pic of you mowing the yard that you can share with us.
Would be good to see you involved in work around the house. Also how bout a pic
of the finished yard.

Some of us are into making our yards look good too. Hope you have been watering
and fertilizing :2vrolijk_21:

Had the exact thing happened to me. Called Bruce Rossmeyer in Fl and talked to one of his Techs. Tech told me to look Towards the bottom of the switch. There you will see a tab (it's about 1/8" wide and sticks about 1/8" below the switch.) using a small screw driver or what I used was a small Allen wrench from the tool kit. Gently pry up on the tab, it will release the switch. He told me not to lift the switch completely up and off as there are wires connected to it. I lifted it up slightly, ( about 1/4") then pushed it back down. This release the switch and allowed me to unlock the forks.
