MA to NH to VT

MA to NH to VT to MA Saturday 12-Aug

2W to Greenfield MA, 63N to Keene NH.

Started on 2W heading to Greenfield from Worcester, at the intersection of 2 and 63 turned right at the Mobil station and headed north on 63. The road is in great shape no construction and very light traffic. The countryside is beautiful in this area, rolling hills, farm land, ponds, old farm houses and barns. Parts of the road are canopied with large old oak and maple trees so you ride in and out of the shade, very peaceful ride at speeds between 40 and 50 MPH.

63N to Keene NH to 9N to Hillsborough NH.

Keene is a great place to stop, nice small town in southern NH. We left Keene on 9N and headed to Hillsborough. 9N is highway but the road is in nice shape and although the traffic was a little heavier, it was moving along fine. 9N moves along through the hills, again very pretty ride, forest on both sides of the road. Stopped in Hillsborough for a coffee and headed onto 202 to 89.

202 to 89N to exit 9 Warner NH.

89N is divided highway through forest land traffic was fairly heavy here, people heading to the lake Sunapee area and up to VT. At exit 9 in Warner  stopped at the Mobil station for fuel and to pick up 103W.

103W to 11 Newbury NH, Sunapee NH.

103W is another great road through the countryside, 40 to 55 MPH, wooded areas, meadows, corn fields, barns etc. Typical New England. Stopped at Newbury to get a few pictures of the southern end of Lake Sunapee, beautiful lake. Then on to the town of Sunapee and Sunapee Harbor. One of my favorite places, great small town feel.

11S/103 to Newport NH, Claremont NH, Ascutney VT.

The ride from Sunapee to Ascutney moves through two nice old mill towns, Newport and Claremont. A little bigger then Newbury and Sunapee. Both are great places to stop although we went right through this time.

5S Ascutney VT

Stopped at the Mobil in Ascutney, just before the on ramp to 91, mostly because I missed the entrance to 5S, oops, very cryptic signage, we are way out in the country now. We turn around and headed back to 5S only about

Thanks for posting, Ed...sounds like a great ride.  There's nothing like riding those country roads and feeling those dips in temperature, all the great smells (even if some of them are manure), and just being immersed in the surroundings...that's what riding is all about.

Beautiful pics too...I have always wanted to come up to New England...maybe I'll make it some day...it's on the "list".   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

One of the great things about this forum is that you get to see photos of places that you might otherwise never see.  Great photos...thanks for sharing.
