WHAT CAMS FOR FXDFSE
« on: July 28, 2012, 11:21:22 PM »

I have seen alot of posts for cams in touring bikes but not on non touring bikes (FAT BOB) . I have stock (catless)head pipe  Rush slip-ons with 2" baffles PCV  with Fuel Moto Map no other mods to motor. Is it possible to get over 100 HP/110 TRQ just dropping in cams?Any info to help me decide will be appreciated.

not going to get 100/110 with cams alone.some headwork,a bigbore kit,a little compression & cams will get you there easily though

a good build would be:
107" kit (if `07 up,if 99.-06 a 98" kit)
headwork with 1.900/1.630 valves
S&S .585EZ cams
easy 110hp+/115tq

A good cam for a 110 motor with stock heads is the Tman SM 600 cam. You will be right at those numbers 96-102 HP  and 108-112 TQ. This is before i had stage 2 head word done.  Dyno sheet shows cam change Tmans SM600 cam with fullsac and V&H power duals both with fullsac 2" cores. The V&H shows just a little more but not that much.  STOCK HEADS. TTS tuner, Dyno pulls were done in 4th gear

With the 110 engine you can add in a few cams to get you there provided you have decent pipes already and open air breather.    The Fueling cam, the Yuill Brothers Cam, The Tman Cam and if memory servers me the andrews 54 cam will all do this for you.

Yuill cam with their true duals and tuned yielded 104-106 hp and 114-116 torque.   Check with 110 mofo although he just redid his bike but the dyno is on here somewhere.   I think JCZ did the Fueling which is also on here.   The TMAN is above and Steve George Fullsac posted the 54 with his cores.

Bob Wood has a new TW-222 cam, that you may want to put an eyeball on.

YellowCVO

I just did the cams and 58mm throttle body/Intake on my 09.  No head work, head gaskets, and I have the worst performing pipes supposedly (V&H big shots 2:2) .

I have the woods 777 cam (It is downright impressive - only 0.15" higher lift but much higher duration), lifters and the screaming eagle adjustable pushrods. I am not sure about using the same push rods again to be honest.  I would consider the S&S or something else. I am very happy with the cams.  The lag off the line GONE. The classic sputter sputter and then off you go is gone.  The having to shift down to pass is GONE. This mod made the motor run how it should have left the factory.  Have not had it on a dyno yet and would love to see what it can do dialed in. I am pretty positive it is over your numbers you are desiring.  I run with a guy with a bit higher numbers and he cannot keep up now.

Bad news.....everything on your bike IS NOT SCREAMING EAGLE.  Just the motor.  The spark plug wires, stock.  The throttlebody, stock...it keeps going.
The heavy breather needs to be replaced if you replace the throttle body.  I would say that if you want the cheapest bolt on parts to get there you will need:

Cams/Lifters/Rods
Throttlebody/Intake
Heavy Breather
Exhaust

Worth it without having to crack the motor!!!!
Total for mods ~$1800-2200
Stage 2 kit from HD is about the same - adding pistons will certainly get more hp but more work will be needed therefore more $

777 has a much better torque curve - that is why I went with it
