Anyone making an aftermarket Compensator?
« on: July 29, 2012, 09:23:14 AM »

With all the threads about failing compensator sprockets... .are there any aftermarket companies making a better, more durable sprocket?

Well,   ya said compensator and then again ya said (sprocket).   It is possible to have one (without the other).  Going (without) a compensator is the subject of much debate,  but here is a source and by the way,  I happen to have one for sale.

That link says "On 2006-2010 models 6th speed indicator light and electronic cruise control will not function, These functions can be fixed with the TTS MASTERTUNE. TTS MASTERTUNE Is Also Availabel Part Number 2000000, Call For Pricing"

Do you know if that affects the 2011 as well? How do you fix it with the TTS??

To the best of my knowledge no one offers a replacement compensator for the late model Harley's, most likely due to patents.  Replacing the actual sprocket with something from the aftermarket can be done, as moscooter mentioned.  However, that eliminates the protection afforded the powertrain by the compensator, and is something I would never recommend for a street bike.

Yes,   I would imagine the same problem would exist with a 2011 an later bike as well.......regarding the loss of the cruise and 6th gear lite.  You can search this topic on Harley Tech Talk........lots of entries.  TTS allows for speedo corrections and other mods to get those functions back as I understand it.

I was told about BDL's compensator sprocket by an acquaintance.

Anyone know anything about these?

I cannot tell from the pics, if their comp sprocket is one piece (merely a sprocket) or an assembly that would be like the H.D. unit.  If noone knows here,  you could call their tech line this week and inquire about it.

The BDL was discussed around here some time ago.  As best I can remember, it relies on two pieces that are threaded together and a plastic washer to supposedly provide a small amount of compensator effect.  It appeared, just looking at the info they have tucked away on the website, that it wouldn't be much better than using a solid gear.  I haven't heard or read about anyone actually using one, and I don't think I would volunteer to be the guinea pig.
