Gas tank removel 2010 street glide Cvo

Do you have to remove the gas from the tank before you remove the quick disconnect? Stupid question but I'm running audio wires to the back and I want to get them in the raceway under the tank.
Thanks

Looks like no to draining tank.  Have to pull fuel pump fuse and run it dry to release the 58 PSI fuel pressure.
Here is a copy of my 09 manual.  Sorry for the i phone quality and curve.

If you want to make the job much easier and safer, I would highly recommend syphoning out as much of the gas as you can.  Six gallons of gasoline weighs nearly forty pounds, and having it sloshing around while you remove the tank could cause a mishap.  It's much easier to handle if the tank is nearly empty.

As for the quick connect, the fuel in the tank won't run out when you remove the fuel line.

Thanks. I'm going to remove as much gas as I can. I was wondering if the gas was still going to drain out of the quick release after its removed. Now I can install my speaker lids

You don't have to drain all the gas out unless you really want too.  It's really not a problem.  And the gas will not run anymore once you disconnect from the quick disconnect.  You will only get a trickle of gas right when you disconnect.

That's the whole purpose of the quick disconnect - so that you can easily remove the tank and not spill fuel - regardless of how much fuel there is in the tank. Remember to also disconnect the little 4-pin electrical connecter on the left side near the front of the tank before you remove it!

Just go out for a long ride and let the tank get nearly empty before you remove it... that's MUCH more fun than siphoning! I just did some engine mods, and I didn't think about the gas in the tank... it was almost full when I removed it, which made the job much more difficult and scary... don't want to drop one of these expensive tanks!

very simple, remove the quick disconnect fuel line, remove the console and lay it back on a towel across the rear fender once seat is removed. Then remove the bolts and carefully just lift off. Total of 5 minutes tops.
if you have a sg with the fuel gage in tank look under the left side is a connector for the fuel gage that must be disconnected since the fuel gage is on the tank.

I've taken my tanks off several times and its important to first relieve the pressure in the fuel line as mentioned earlier by a forum member. If I recall the manual, first pull the fuel pump fuse and then crank the bike over which will drain the pressure off the line. Once the tank console is removed with the hoses (vapor + overflow). Then its a matter of removing the 2 nuts up front, the bolts under the seat and the fuel line. I've not had a problem pulling the tank off when half full...but as the fuel sloshes it can be dangerous - so be careful.
