Has anyone noticed ?
« on: August 15, 2006, 10:16:31 PM »

That the MoCo seems to introduce big changes in odd numbered years

1949 First Hydra-glide front end
OK, one of you historians can help me out here cause I know there were a bunch of changes with the first swing-arm, the intro of the shovelhead
1983 first Evo
1999  First Twin Cam
2003  First 103 Twin Cam
2007  First stock production stroker motor (96") and punched out version (110")

Found the answer to my own question:

1965 The Electra-Glide debuts

BUT, not everything "big" happened in an odd-numbered year: http://www.retrocom.com/retromilw/milwhd.htm

Lots of 83 Evos out there and yet the official date is 84   hmmmmmmmmm  I wonder if there were 96" mules being ridden around the country last year or earlier

H-D's site also says '84 for the Evo: http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/H-D_History/history_1980s.jsp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US

BTW, shovel head was 1966.

Brian,
        Isn't a 65 a pan bottom and shovel top ?  Panshovel

1965 was the year of the first electric start.  30 years later, I had a 30th anniversary Electraglide.  The first one with fuel injection.  -Steve

2000 - Deuce
2002 - VRod

OK, the Deuce may not have been major, but the VRod was a pretty radical introduction.  I'm sure that you guys can come up with some "even" year stuff too.
