Clear View Experience
« on: August 02, 2012, 12:59:36 PM »

I put a 9" flare top Clear View on my FLHTCUSE and hit the road for a test ride. At speeds up to 55 I really did not notice much difference over the stock windshield. I think a 8" Clear View would fit better. Then I hit the Interstate. It was noisy and rough. When I pulled in behind a semi at about 75 the whole front end felt like it was going to shake apart.

I am disappointed in the Clear View. I have not read a single negative thing about them. I wonder what is going on? Is it even worth ordering a shorter one?

I rode 400 miles yesterday so I have a fresh memory of the stock shield. The wind was calm both days.

Perhaps you sit too tall in the saddle for that hieght shield if you have wind noise and head buffeting. As for the shaking behind a truck, the batwing fairing is more unstable than the shark in the "wash" of air behind a big truck.

Dont stop yet you are supposed to spend at least a $1,000.00 dollars and try 7 or so expensive windshields before you discover that the stock one is not bad, lol

Got a 13" Clearview on my FLTRUSE and couldn't be happier. :2vrolijk_21: The BSR says it has reduced the air on her too.

Been there and did that when I owned a GL1800. I only gave in to this temptation because of so many positive comments. At least I can send it back.

Craig,

Can you see over the 13"? I am 6' and was just barely looking over the 9".

I was unhappy with buffeting on my Street Glide, too (I assume buffeting would be similar in SGs and Ultras).  Three things helped:

The chrome fork baffle p/n 58520-79TC

Adjustable fairing wind deflectors p/n 58207-98 (aren't these already on your Ultra?)

Freedomshields 9" windshield.

These three things really cut down the buffeting.

As for the instability riding behind big trucks, that needs to be looked at.  Mine has never wobbled in the wash of a bigrig.  That needs to be evaluated.

Mine didn't either with the stock shield. This is no minor vibration. It is definitely a deal breaker.

Seems very strange.

I run the Clearview 9.5" with the recurve on both my 06 FLHTCUSE & my 09 FLHTCU.  I am 6'4" and I have none of those issues.  My BSR loves it.

And yes, I am one that spent $x.xxx on many windshields trials.

I think the best thing to do is give the manufacturer a call and see if he has any ideas. Mine is definitely the exception.

Jenady, Whether I sit up or slouch, I have no issues with the stock windshield on my 09. The side windeflectors do help keep you cooler when it is really hot outside, but they cause a lot of wind buffeting when open.  JMHO. CAHDBIKER

I would absolutely call clearview, he is extremely helpful and I believe he really does care about making the customer happy. BTW, both Jerry and I am 5'7" and yes rglides and eglides are different worlds, I just read your introduction and noticed you have the exact same roadglide as we do But, you say here you have a Eglide so I am a little confused  but yes we both have an inch to inch and a half of sight line above the shield.
