corbin or mustang seat?
« on: August 16, 2006, 02:00:56 AM »

[smiley=confused5.gif] ok, management has requested a more comfortable seat for "our serk".
it is quite tough to sit on for long trips i must admit, anyone had any luck in the sore behind dept?
id really rather not buy 2 or 3 seats before i find one that management  approves of.

xocyber,
As a collector of seats (what you are trying to avoid!) the seat you pick depends alot on what type of riding you do.  I have had corbins on each of my harleys ( four over fifteen years) and feel that they are rigid in first 1000 miles but after that on 300 to 400 mile touring rides give the least "numb butt". You might want to consider the Saddle gel seats before the mustang if you like a less rigid seat (had one on last Heritage Classic, after 15K seem the gel started to breakdown as the "squirm factor" came on in less miles!).  If you want long distance hauling and custom to your and management's specific riding style check out Russell's day long saddle website (www.day-long.com).  John

"Management" and I recently went 7,672 miles in 500 mile chunks on our SERK with a HD Air Zepplin.  The seat was aired up 100% by 2nd riding day.  I was given good appraisals by managment throughout the trip.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that the seat only looks good if the tour pak is on the bike, and it's HUGE.  Also the front of the seat sits over the console about 3 inches which I didn't care about.  So if you want a very comfortable "couch" for extended trips, it works very well.

For the sake of clean lines and proportions, I'm looking real hard at corbin if I can find one at a discount.  Then again, I am at 3 seats in the garage inventory, so how many isn't an issue for me, I guess.

I have never owned a Mustang seat, but have put over 30.000 miles on my Corbin.
Would not consider owning anything else. Just my humble opinion.

I got the same seat. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Had a Sundowner on my old RK classic and neither seat gave ME problems. But the Sunray heated is awesome especially in the fall and winter! Management loves it! [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

I've got over 50,000 miles on Mustang 2-piece seats with the largest passenger pillion. I used Corbins on my softail, but didn't like their Road King seat.

No passenger complaints with the Mustang.

I had a LaPera on my Road King and the wife loved it. Only problem was no back rest for me. The seat was great other then that. I have a Corbin for my seeg now and so far so good.

Have owned 3 mustang seats. Comfortable from mile one.  You can get them in any color you like so long as you like black.

I'm seriously considering the Sunray for my '03 SERK...this is basically the same configuration as the Sundowner deep bucket touring seat from HD, correct?   I'm beginning to feel the need more comfort and so is management for the long hauls.  Also thinking ahead that the heat option could be put to good use out here in the prairie lands in the cool seasons.  So, did either of you use the optional LED Indicator Lamp/housing or do you feel it is not necessary?   I can imagine that if the buns get toasty, you would just shut off the heating element or switch it down to a lower level rather than relying on a light to tell you basically the same thing?

EZ

You can add another name to the Sunray heated seat list. 103tHunDer got his a couple weeks ago . When he was down here this summer he rode my scooter and asked what seat I had. He previously had the comfort stitch seat. He said likes the way the seat positioned him and made him sit lower to the ground than the comfort stitch.

I considered the LED but there is NO reason to have it unless you want more BLING! ;D [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] 8-) [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif]. Hey d00d, you got this seat??? ::)You push the button on left side of seat for high, medium, and low settings. If you forget or wonder if it's off, just cycle the accessory switch or ignition switch and that will turn off seat and start all over.

I have enjoyed the heat on them chilly mornings to the cold 20 degree days of winter. It would feel like your sitting on a family of prairie dogs giving warmth to your backside. Want to turn it down a notch, just reach under your backside a throw one of them suckers off! All though turning back up could be a problem. ::) I personally have enjoyed this seat and believe it would be great improvement over what you have. Of course so would sitting on a bed of rocks be an improvement over stock!!!! :o

Nope, can't tear myself away from getting rid of the stock seat. Since the majority of my riding is solo w/out the tourpak on I haven't found a seat that I like the looks of (in this configuration) better then the stock. The low "Draggin' Bagger" look of the stock seat just does something for me. :o

That almost sounds like something that I heard on a "Bob and Tom" morning show from a couple years back.    :)

Thanks for the info JR.
