Lifter Failure
« on: August 08, 2012, 10:41:51 PM »

Over the weekend i started to hear what i thought was a out of spec adjustable or a lifter. I took her to the shop and the pushrods are fine and they will be removing the cam case to evaluate the lifters. There thought is a bad lifter or bleeding off. Bike has 13 k on it and 7 k this year since mods were done in january. Lifters are Fueling HP lifters so we plan on talking to them about the defects after only 7 k miles on them. Will find out any additional damage as a result of the failure as we go along. Woods 777 cams, head work , and pistons also done with the lifters and pushrods in Jan. Thoughts?

I forgot to add that i always warm the bike up good and for the first 10 min of riding, chatter would be noticeable from 2100-2400. After 10 min things would quiet. Scary when i always babied it till it was warm.

Did you find any issues to indicate a problem with the lifters?  Axial roller movement?  Your noise could be higher up, like worn rocker arm bushings, for example...   :nixweiss:

What was your thought process in the decision to use the Woods 777?
What head work did you have done?

One of the lifters was starting to seize up and there was wear and markings from what i was told. 50 miles south of Dale's so i'll take a look on sat. All the noise was down low with the stethoscope. I'll find out the results from the tech tomorrow. Heads were ported by R and R motorsports in Benton,il. Final tune was 114 and 122. 100 tq from 2500. 100 hp at 4400..112 square at 5200. Like the fact that the cam is balanced throughout. Thought about the 400 cam but i rarely shift over 5 k.
