12 FLTRXSE engine build
« on: August 09, 2012, 11:06:24 AM »

Just got the "Skunk" and want to wake it up. Looking at the SE Racing catalogue, and see that the 113" kit won't work on CVO 110" engines, and wondered why?
Also there is a performance kit for the 110" with only a SE257 cam. I'm wondering if I had head work as well, can the SE266E work with this build?

new ex cams and tune will wake that engine right up.. Save you a ton of money as well..  Tons of options for the 110 engine.. Maybe a better out line of what type of gains you are looking for..
Look through the dyno sheets with minor mods , up to the full blown builds..

We just install the Kury TC24 cam and it did very well for a simple mod.. Add high comp pistons and cams gains will only get.. Etc

Some guys will tell you that a X cam and X porting and X comp ratio is the best.. Best for what though.. Again clear out line of the performance you look to gain..

Going thru and independent tuner/builder will generally give you better results for less money.  The only reason to go with H-D products is for warranty purposes, but stealerships aren't usually willing to honor their warranties without some waffling.

Ask Doc1
He tuned one with my heads and the SE HC pistons and the SE259 cam. There are better.
It made in the mid 121/126 SAE. Fuel Moto pipes with Rinehart slips

MANY, MANY, options to establish power, especially if wanting to have the ability for it to hit, and continue to pull into the upper rpm range.
A slid-in cam DOES NOT fall into that catagory whatsoever. :D

I did cams(574) TB, injectors & a quality 2-1 pipe as I did'nt want to pull the heads until it was truely nec. My specs are in my signature & it pulls hard & has tq & hp where you need it on a bagger!

I would not say that all slip in cams are not up to the task   Look at the Kury 26 cam its works under a stock head , yet install this slip in cam with heads and increased compression and it will pull into the 6500 RPM range... Many of the woods cams fall into this as well, Fueling 574 cam is a great bolt in cam , add some head work and it only gets better.. Many times the heads can be the stopping point on many of the builds not the  slip in cams.. The cam has much more to offer yet other items are holding it back. Its all about the combo .

But opinions are what they.. " some say if it cost's more it must be better"  Curtis Hamliton..

Not trying to get into a pissing match but some enjoy taking the stab every chance they get.. Being that we have installed a fair amount of these cams tuned them, added pistons, along with head work and have seen what they can offer.. Take a look at the money invested to gain that little bit more.. Tq wise the gains are small ,..hp the gains are bigger however the next question is how often is the engine at 6000 RPM and it is only there for a few tenths of a second..

I had the reaper 574 in at big bore kit for my 07SG. Man did it pull. Was wanting a bit more cam sound at idle though. Been talking to the local HD shop and seem to just be mon committal with me on any level when it comes to a build, in fact he told me to just get a 120R. Yeah well that's not gonna happen.

Nice graph Vanamal! That's all I'd need to make my ride perform the way I want.

Based on the dynosheet that was posted for the new Kuryakyn cam deliver it delievered almost the same numbers as vanamals dyno without having to clip the heads.   Quite a few of the guys are getting 125/120 with headwork and compression and cams,  Why wouldnt you save a grand for the headwork and the labor to do it, and give the bolt in cam a shot.   I know porters are in business to make money, but for most the 5 hp would never be felt, and even if you used it, how long would that be for a mili sec at WOT ?   I know I don't fall in this category, but there are many many on this site that do and not everyone wants 11 to 1 or 12 to 1  to make a cam run.

Unbalanced......on the Kury test cam dyno sheet is that a 110 with a cam and pipe change only? Any idea of about what the cyl pressure is in that build? My current build has the normal inverted 110 numbers using the SE260 and the 10.5 pistons and looking at a different direction for the winter.
Thanks

Yellowbird,

I didnt ask what the pressures where and if they were tested or not, but you can message or call GMR he is a member here and can point you at he answer.

This is approx as I dont know what the pistons were in the hole etc,  I ran the numbers through the bigboyz calculater and it looks like  9.46 static     cold cranking approx 192.4    and corrected at 9.27   with a 20 close
