Question for guys that haul there bike in a trailer
« on: August 13, 2012, 11:54:54 PM »

Ok. I am in the process of trying to buy a trailer to haul 2 bikes in and I am looking at a 7 by 12. My question is do any of you have some tips on loading them up the ramp. I need to transport my build to get some work done on it and I figure might as well by one for two bikes.

Soft handlebar tie straps and a couple good sets of cam lock tie down straps.

Install wheeldocks, condor or some kinda accuated front wheel lock.  Make sure there is a steel plate under the floor where the bike mounts are through bolted.

I uses bike pros for a while, fine for dynas and such  but a harley bago takes 2 to roll out.  I switched to wheeldocks to load, unload single. Kick the lever and get off. Try not to tie down using the handle bars...

Wheel chock, either Condor or genuine HD,they are both the same. DO NOT tire from handle bars, depending on what bike you have there a different tie options. I trailer a street glide and use a wheel chock Kuryakyn tie brakes for the front and rear foot pegs to stop rear from scating around.

There is also a bunch of info here http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=70133.0;all

This may be common sense here but in a 7X12 foot trailer, you will want to think about staggering the bikes (depending on style you transport) as you want to have room to move around for securing them and you don't want the handlebars to come in contact....just saying.  I say this as I'm a 90 degree angle person and have problems thinking on other angles and such so staggering might be something I might not have thought of..... :wideeyed:

Or buy mine.
Mine is four times the price of Mike's and does no more than his. (guess that means I don't really care if I sell it, duh)

I have a 7 x 12.  Use the condors like stated previously, do not strap to the handlebars and be sure to tie-down the back end too so that it does not move around.

I would suggest a 8' wide trailer. Makes life easier to load bikes and tie them down. You would not have to stagger them, but if you got the room I would. Just my 2 cents.
