Dakota Antenna
« on: July 28, 2004, 03:04:06 PM »

I have seen the Dakota Antenna mentioned in the "what to have" discussion.  Where is this antenna available ?  How is the reception compared to the original equipment ?

I had the Dakota antenna switched between the stock and Dakota in my garage .  Reception was very bad only local stations.  I sent the Dakota antenna back and got a full refund.  [smiley=thumbsdown.gif] [smiley=worthless.gif]

I also installed the Dakota Digital and I am less than impressed. still looking for an alternative. Locally it works O.K. but when traveling it's useless almost NO reception. Don't waste your money!!! [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

I am going to order the tourpak over the winter.  I was just wondering what other options are there other than Dakota antenna?

I didn't like the whip that came on the SEEG so I went out to Advance Auto Parts and bought a $6.95 mini replacement antenna. I works good except when your in rural areas, just put the radio on DX and it works fine.

I have also heard of guys running the regular antenna under the saddle bag from front to back.  You have to cut the anttena down, but they say it works pretty good.

I've had the Dakota Digital unit for several months and sometimes the reception was so-so.  I orginally installed it inside the fairing, down low on the right side.

I had the outer fairing off Saturday so I could adjust my handlebars (Wild 1 575's) and decided to relocate the Dakota Digital unit.  It's still inside the fairing, but now at the top and the reception is much, much better.

PS  And if you install new bars do your best to get the adjustment right the first time! It's major surgery to adjust the bars after everything is put back together :)

Gentleman the initial test results are in and the Tune Trapper is an improvement on the stock antenna (the whip) and forget about that piece of crap Digital Dakota!!!  FM signal is mainly what I wanted and this gets excellent reception for long distances, AM reception is good as well (only tested that a short while so far) but the weather bad works good also. Easy to install, I mounted it rite across the top of the inside of the fairing with 2 zip ties (next time I open it I will take some pics). I paid $26.00 delivered.... what a boggan!!! I ordered the Tune Trapper the other day.  I hopefully will get it installed before I leave for Sturgis next week.  I will post my review of it when I get back.
