Fullsac 2.25 CVO core VS 2.25 power cores SD
« on: August 22, 2012, 09:03:02 AM »

Ok, what is the difference between the Fullsac 2.25 CVO muffler cores and the Fullsac 2.25 Power Core SD?

I had the fullsac 2.25 CVO baffles on my 2009 SERG.  They sounded pretty good.

On the choice of the two being offered now, is one louder?  Does one make more power?  More back pressure?

Thanks.

Sound will be louder with bigger cores, Steve punches his own cores and can make a quieter core, give him a call.
Not much difference in power from small to large, see old chart attached.

I was told by Alice @ FullSac the SD core has less perforation on the baffle, which in return makes the db's increase

I had the regular 2.25 on my 09 SERG and was pretty happy with them.  I wonder how much louder and if it adds any power.

I'd reach out to Steve for that one

I don't know if there was ever a definite test for decibels.

Reply 1 does not answer the question in the first post or the one you are replying to now.

The question was "what is the difference between the Fullsac 2.25 CVO muffler cores and the Fullsac 2.25 Power Core SD?"

Both are Fullsac and the same size, 2.25 but one is SD......

Sorry, got confused with another post!
To answer your questions, the difference in cores is just the pattern and length of louvers punched along the tube. I have a set of 1 3/4" cores from a couple years ago that Steve made up to be a tad quieter than the original set I put on my 2010. This is what he is producing now that he has his own machine. After setup, this machine can punch just about any pattern, length you wish with a set-up charge, I believe.
The spiral punch pattern along with the number of louvers and length of the tail piece will affect the sound quality. More louvers, longer tail piece usually quieter that you can hear. Back pressure differences I bet would be minimal.
Powerwise, there is hardly any difference, we made more HP on the dyno by just removing the air cleaner! Maybe a picture would help?

You can give Steve a call at: 928-505-2912 and ask if he has dyno'd any of the "new" louvers vs. the last production run.

My question to you is: now that you have run his cores, are you looking for louder? more HP? more back pressure?

So is the answer, no difference in power just noise?

I think you'd notice a performance difference between the 2 if you ran a catless headpipe, but with the cat clogging exhaust flow so much in the middle, I doubt it matters what is at the end of the pipe.

You may SEE a small difference on a dyno, but you'd be hard pressed to actually FEEL it on the road.

Hog Mike

I ran the 2.25 he had in 09 on my 09 CVO Road Glide, with the factory head pipe cut, cat totally removed and welded back together.  I also used the TTS.

I liked them a lot, but was looking for something a little deeper sound with out loosing power or back pressure.  I loved the sound of the V&H monster rounds along with the looks, however I lost a few foot pounds of torque, down low.  Not worth the deeper sound or look to me, switched it back to the 2.25.

On the 12 CVO Road Glide I am running Fuel Moto head pipe and the Jackpot pro tour mufflers and TTS tuner.  Power is about the same as I had with the 09 and fullsac set up, and the fullsac set up was way less money.  The sound is good, but not that much better than the fullsac sound.

So I was wondering if the only change between the 2.25 fullcac cores and the 2.25 fullsac SD cores was sound.  I know I am doing a Fullsac head pipe on the 13 CVO Road King and the TTS tuner.

I am trying to decide between the 2.25 cores and the 2.25 SD cores or Rineheart 4 inch slip ons.

I am thinking about doing a cam, 10.5 pistons, a little porting, on the 13.  So I do not want anything that will loose torque or HP.  It can be louder than the 2.25 were on the 09, as it will not be my long haul bike, 300 mile days or so at most, un like the road glide I do 600 or 700 mile days on.
