Voltage regulater
« on: August 22, 2012, 10:53:32 AM »

My service dept told me that they have had to replace some voltage regulaters on the 2012 bikes. It seems that harley changed the fender and it has caused some heat problems with the regulaters. The reg stops charging and makes the bike run off the batt. any one have this problem?Or is this just HD Bull Crap.

There has been a lot about that.  Search voltage regulator.

Has nothing to do with the fender or any other excuse they might pawn off.  Was just a run of bad regulators they're having to replace.

Gotta love those BS artists at the friendly Harley stores, there isn't a single subject they can't make up BS about.

Fender has nothing to do with it, they bought the regulators from a lousy supplier who pawned off junk.  Harley hasn't recalled them, since they claim it's not a safety defect when your charging system quits working and your battery goes dead.  But they did set up a "Product Program 0912" to replace regulators that fall within a certain build date.  Click on the attachment for the bulletin.

Commented on this one a couple places but yes, there is a window that they discovered the problem (opps, not a problem...a product program...) and they apparently have implemented the fix on the assembly line.  My 12 SESG (took delivery first of March) was part of the recall (was replaced this past Saturday) but buddies 12 SERG that came late April was not part of the program so build date is critical.  As for the fender lies (not lies, missrepresentations...sorry...sorta like recall verses product program... :bananarock:) think about it...if it was a fender "change", why didn't it affect more models/years and only just a small window of 2012 bikes???????? just sayin' :nixweiss:

Oh, don't start me on the tire cupping deal Murphy.  09 SG had another "product program" on the front tire...was put on backward?  Gave me a new tire but what a fix and explanation!  Sometimes, the motor is in the front dragging us along and sometimes it's in the rear pushing the BS...I smell BS but did get a new tire in the process.  Funny but took notice that my 12 SESG had the same tire AND was installed just like it was originally installed on my 09....looking for another product program in the works. :nixweiss:

Haven't they been making fenders the same way since about 1956?  Wonder how many voltage regulator suppliers they've gone through in that time.  The current one probably wishes they had the vivid imagination of Harley and would've come up with blaming their customer's fender design on their own, in hopes of avoiding the warranty charges they are no doubt incurring.
