Need Advice on my new '07 SE ULTRA
« on: August 18, 2006, 06:40:28 PM »

I have a Red/Black '07 SE Ultra on order which will hopefully be arriving in the next week or two. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Talked to my dealer today about all of the rumors going around concerning '07 warranty issues. To make a long story short, I've decided to go with slip on mufflers, Stage I SE A/C, and SERT. He said he would take care of me and there would be no warranty issues or EPA issues w/ this setup.

He had several '07 bikes (96"TC) with same set-up for sale on showroom floor.

He only offers the Vance and Hines slip-on muffler or the Screaming Eagle slip on.

I listened to both.

The Vance and Hines are too loud for my taste on the Ultra. I want to be able to hear the stereo.

The Screaming Eagles sound like $hit. They don't sound any better than the stock mufflers! The dealer told me before he fired the bike up w/ the SE muffler that the '07 SE muffler sounds like crap. I've had SE slipons in the past and they sounded pretty good, and my brother in law bought an '06 RK a few months ago and put the SE slip-ons on it and they sound pretty good(personally I think they have a little bit of tin noise when you really get on it). The dealer said the new SE muffler that harley is making now are different than the previous ones. Must have something to do w/ EPA regulations.

I have Kerker slip ons on my '99 RK and really like the sound. (Can you still buy Kerker mufflers for a harley?? Did a google search and no luck)

When you did the hearing test were you outside with the bikes and did you sit on them to see how loud they were? I only ask this because if you were inside the sound could have been louder then it would be outside (were riding will be done), and standing behind bike versus sitting on it they will be louder. Also you may want to see if he can let you listen to these pipes on an 110ci motor as that may make a difference in sound also. Another thing is to have wife sit on bike outside w/it running and see what she thinks as she will be closer to the "business" end of the pipes. Good luck.

I have V&H ovals and love them - just enough noise so others can hear you coming (and going!!) but still able to hear the stereo at highway speeds.

Cheers

Agree with fireDooD, I have freedoms, they are loud, but the sound gets left behind you on the road, I hear my stereo just fine, even before I upgraded to the hog wired. I also want the Girls with cell phones glued to their ears while driving, and the driver who doesnt see me to be able to hear me. Might also be good for those in deer country to have a little louder pipes, just my opinion.

Ace, you just need to listen to some different pipes and choose the one's you like. If you remember, there was lots of doom and gloom about the 06 models not being able to change tuning, etc.

There always has to be someone who's different and I'm the one.  Try riding your new CVO for a 1,000 miles before changing the mufflers.  The CVO Ultra touring mufflers are 4" diameter and look good.  They will increase in sound as the miles add up.  Let us know when you get the new bike and what you decide.  If you are definitely changing mufflers, you may want to try the S&S SPO ovals.  The look is not the greatest but they sound like a big block Chevy..

If you can find the SE Pro Performance Slip-Ons (65115-98B) they sound pretty good to me.  Have them on my '06 and my previous bike and I like them.  Loud enough, but not too loud, and do increase performance.

I ditto the Vance & Hines Ovals - sounds great but the stereo is easily heard - and they are not "noisy" in the high end - they have a great "rumble"...  8-)

You are right Dood,
I was inside and standing behind the bike when I listened to them. I really like the look of the V&H Ovals. I am leaning towards them. The new SE slip-ons that are available now did not sound good at all. I like the look of the Rineharts also but after reading the thread on all of the problems people have had w/ the Rineharts I am afraid to go that route. Also, since the dealer carries the V&H's,I think if I have any problems w/ mufflers, tuning, etc. that I would be better off to buy all the products from him.(From my past experience the dealers seem to take better care of you and try to make things right if you buy products from them rather than take in aftermarket parts purchased over the internet.) So right now I  am leaning toward the V&H Slip-on Ovals, Screamin Eagle Race tuner, and SE Stage I air cleaner ($1300 for all three installed.) That way I will get the full warranty and my dealer says that I won't have any future problems w/ my 2 year warranty on my new scoot. He says he will take care of me. I told him that other dealers won't do any mods on the '07s because of warranty and EPA issues and he said even if HD won't take care of it , he will, because he wants my repeat business. This is my fourth bike from this dealer.

Thanks
