Hard Front Suspension 12 FLTRXSE
« on: August 30, 2012, 11:04:59 PM »

First post on here and could use some input. The front suspension on my FLTRXSE (well and maybe the rear too) is about to drive me nuts. I've done the Progressive Monotube and have "13 Premium HD Touring shocks. I'm on a trip this weekend and the ride is harsh to say the least. Recently took out a OE Road Glide Ultra and the ride, solo and with a passenger, was better than my CVO. Considering my suspension should be better than a stock Road Glide Ultra could it be the 19" front and 18" rear wheels that causes this? The low profile tire not absorbing road bumps? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Would like to set up the RG with a King Tour Pak and go more "Ultra" but would like to get this suspension figured out first. I figure there really can't be that much different between the OE RG Ultra and my bike with the upgrades. Seems all that is left is tires.

I have the Progressive Monotubes in the front and love them.  They are not adjustable.  While stiffer than stock, I have never found them to be uncomfortable.  The HD shocks are adjustable and should be when a passenger gets on or off.  I actually have never heard a complaint from anyone with the Progressives.   Do you know if they were installed correctly?

Have you checked to see if tire pressure is too high?  Is it possible the PM were installed incorrectly?  If so, they can bind inside the legs and they would be very stiff.  I have PM monotubes, one inch lower than stock.  They are firm, but they're anything but harsh.

Thanks all. That does have me thinking about the installation of the PM's. It was done by a dealer but doesn't mean it was done correctly. I'll also double check the tire pressure.  Also on the rear I've started out around the recommended adjustment and varied around there. I will crank it up and work back from there to get a feel for what feels better. That is what I did when I had the original shocks on and never found the right setting for me. Dealer stop for sure when I get back home.
