Power Commander V O2 question.
« on: August 31, 2012, 11:24:14 AM »

My buddy gave me his old Power Commander V......my bike is totally stock....can I run it?

I understand I have to download the map for ...."110in stock exhaust and stock intake"....but do I need to do ANYTHING else?

Can it be run on my bike without and autotune?....can I just disconnect my O2 sensors?....any info would be great.

Did he give you the o2 eliminators? If not you can buy them from PC, or FuelMoto for 20 or 30$

Did he give you the installation instructions?  They will answer your questions, and if he didn't give them to you you can click on the file I've attached.

While you can "eliminate" the O2 sensors and closed loop operation, it seems a real shame to give up the advantages that system offers.  What you will basically wind up with is an engine management system similar to a 2006 Harley, with no built in compensation for wear of components or variations in fuel or air flow.  Will it work?  Sure it will, just like it did on all those earlier model Harleys.

Jerry

Oh, you may want to check the actual part number of the unit he gave you to make sure it is the correct one for a 2010-2012 Touring model.  The SKU for the correct unit, per the PC web site, is 15-011

Not sure, but I think if you didn't it'll either run crappy or throw a CEL code. If someone gave it to me I'd spend a few bucks for the eliminators and hook it up the way its intended. And follow the link Jerry posted for install.

You'll hear all kinds of negatives about the Power Commander Brand and the Power Commander V. Things like: "you loose....", should be using TTS", "Fullsac" and all the other "blah, blah, blah".

I've been running a Power Commander V on my 2011 CVO Street Glide for around 15,000 miles now with ZERO, yes that is less than 1, problems or any other quirks etc.. The bike runs like it should anywhere in the country I've been to. From 600 feet above sea level to 12,000 feet.

I'm running the stock header with the cat removed and V&H Hi-Output slipons with a canned map that the folks at FuelMoto sent me when I bought the PCV. The stock header has the stock O2 sensors in it with the sensors unplugged behind the right side cover. I had the bike dyno tuned locally just to be safe after hearing all the negative comments here but I like the map that FuelMoto sent me better and am still using it.

No problems, no issues, no nothing! If there's a problem with my bike then I must be a complete idiot for not noticing. I bought the unit, plugged it in and it's work perfectly since.

Keep the free PCV you will be very happy.

Oh, you might have guessed that I'm a happy Power Commander customer and have been for years.

OK...he found the "eliminators" for me...they seem to only be cheap jumper wires in the connectors...we'll see.

crap...I just looked on the back..PN 15-004

I wonder if they are the same...just the wire length is the only difference in part numbers.

????not sure what I am missing???? :Nixie's: I have read the instruction a couple of times and I see nothing about the O2 eliminators?  Are the eliminators just weather proofing plug to keep the moisture out of the plug.....they are not even listed on the instructional "included list".....thanks

15-004 is for 2009 Softails.  Lots of things different there from yours.  It's not something you should use on the 2011 touring bike.

Something else to know before you pursue this (if you pursue this) with the correct Power Commander.  Has your bike ever been tuned?

If the map within the ECM has been changed in any previous tune (by Race Tuner, SSERT, TTS, etc) than a canned download map for the Power Commander won't be accurate.  The Power Commander maps are an overlay.  A separate map within the Power Commander that gives +/- instructions working in conjunction with the map in the ECM.  So if you're base map has been changed the overlay instructions will no longer be working from the same baseline.
