2012 CVO Ultra air cleaner
« on: September 05, 2012, 02:02:24 PM »

does this bike come stock with the upgraded air cleaner "high flow backing plate"

ok...I've been searching and found the S.G. and R.G. came stock, but unsure if the ultras do...

I'm searching for info for my Buddy..2012 CVO Ultra....

looks likes he's in line for the stage one kit from Fullsac....

with doing the stock exhaust modification as per Ultrarider1.

This bike comes with a stock KN air cleaner......I wonder if HD sells a larger free flowing exhaust backing plate to modifiy the stock air cleaner?

Thanks

Rick

ps...he's doing the street glide mods (tour pack removal next week) I'll upload some pics..

The 2012 FLHTCUSE7 comes with the Ventilator air cleaner, and it is a high flow air cleaner (same as the CVO Street Glide and Road Glide).  To the best of my knowledge however the stock filter element is not a K&N oiled element, but a washable paper instead.  You can buy a K&N oiled cotton gauze element either from H-D or directly from K&N or one of their dealers if so desired.  My suggestion, run the stock element until it's time to replace it, then go with the K&N if you like.

Like Jerry said, my 2012 Ultra comes with the high-flow intake as stock.  The filter element is washable and is not oiled.  My previous Ultra had a modified high-flow intake which used an oiled K&N filter with the stock oval intake cover to protect it from the weather.  I am not sure if it is a good idea to run an oiled filter element with the exposed intake on the newer Ultras.  I would think that he would be cleaning and re-oiling the element every week since it is exposed, and if he gets caught in the rain....what a mess with oily water dripping all over the bike!
