Go to the Home page of the forums. Type uni-go trailer in the search box at the upper right side of the page hit search and quite a bit of information will pop up. Knock yourself out.

Hi Bill, (Sklywag)
I have recently purchased a touring Uni-Go to pull behind a 2011 FLHX (non-CVO) bike.
Are you using the Bushtec Hitch?
I went with the Bushtec Hitch, seems to be the best fit for this bike, and is not visable when not in use.
Talking with Uni-Go, they do not have a receiver that adapts to the Bushtec hitch, nor did they have a Uni-Go hitch that would fit this bike as well.
I am at this point going to modify the Bushtec ball mount receiver to accept the Uni-Go mounting plate unless you have a better idea that you are using.
It appears you have a luggage rack on your Uni-Go as well.
I did not notice this as an option they offer.

Thank You for your thoughts on this.

The UniGo Dealer I purchased from in Ohio told me specifically not to use the Bushtec hitch.  It is designed to carry weight, the UniGo requires a hitch that supports side loads, not weight bearing because of how the loads work with a single wheel.  I had actually ordered the Bushtec hitch, I then called him about an adapter & that is when I found out what the needs were.  I cancelled the Bushtec.

I used the N-Line Hitch as that was the UniGo recommendation.  This is a 1" square tube type receiver hitch.  He said the N-Line was so good that is why they did not design a hitch for the later bikes.

I have added the only picture I have with me of the UniGo on the back of our 09 with the N-Line Hitch.  The hitch when installed, without the UniGo adapter, presents a black wrap around steel band just below the bottom of the fender.  I think it looks just fine.

We head out on vacation for 10 days at noon today, before we leave I will snap a couple pictures of the hitch on the 09 without the trailer & couple of the UniGo adapter.  I will post them tonight when we get settled in at the hotel.

I will PM you my phone number if you would like to talk.

Here are a couple pictures of the N-Line Hitch on our 09 Ultra.  Although we do have a Strret Glide rear fender on it.  The Ultra Hitch is very similiar.

Hi Bill,
Thank You for taking the time to post pictures while on your trip.
Where did you get your luggage rack, i did not see that as an option on Uni-Go website?

No problem, the Ultra was just sitting in the garage at home, so it was easy to grab the pic before we left.  Sorry they weren't a little better I just took them with my phone.

My CVO is an 06, so it came with the leather tour pack & that small luggage rack.  I replaced the small leather tour pack with a king tour pack and I sold the leather one on EBay without the rack because that rack was a perfect fit to the UniGo.

So it's just a stock HD Rack.  Works great for an extra soft side cooler, or I will throw a back pack on it with the rain gear & whatever else fits to save some room.

I have 2 friends with that same tour box
Thanks for the info. We are still trying to work out the bishtec hitch if possible.
If we make a short strong square receiver with the Uni Go receiver plate welded to it, do you think it would be rigid enough to track properly?

It isn't the tracking when going straight, he said it is the force that is transferred into the MC during the leans & turns because the trailer is leaned & applying force to the MC.  Remember it transferrs all it's energy through the UJoint and into the hitch, it doesn't just rest on the hitch & swing back & forth.

When I get home, the 16th.  I will pull the bags off and take some better pictures of how the hitch is mounted, it wraps up behind the chrome covers over the fender bolts.

You may be able to modify the Bustec to match.

Bill,
Since you did all of the research, I am going with your recomendation.
I ordered the N-line hitch today, and will be returning the Bushtec for this application.
Thanks for your photo's.

I think thats a ggod call.  I have probably 4k miles on the Ultra with the UniGo & that hitch.

Couple comments on the install of the N-Line.

Pull off the bags and the chrome trim pieces that cover up the rear fender bolts.
The reason I say this is I didn't like the way N-Line wanted to space it out to clear the chrome trim pieces.
I bolted it all up with the trm, then I carefully mofified the trip to clear the bolts, washers & hitch brackets.
You will see what I mean when you get it.
I will take some pictures for you of what I did.
Mount it all up on the bike brfore you stary tightening anything.
Make sure the receiver is lined up on the center of the tire & rear fender.
Then strat tightening it up, readjust as needed to keep it centered.

We are headed home early from out trip, we will be home on Tuesday.

Why early?  I will let Trudy do the post about the trip.  It was supposed to be a MC Trip, that ended up in the car.

Bill,

Post your pics here for the rest of us following this topic.  I want a trailer and have narrowed it down between the Bushtec and Uni-Go.  I kinda like the smaller Uni-Go over the larger Bushtec although each has a loyal following.
