Number of Miles per Day?
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:31:10 AM »

Just curious, how long of ride is a no brainer on the King? Looks like the Ultra riders can do 700-1200 without problems. I never took my first Harley (Road King) on any long trips.

I gotta give you credit, I couldn't do it without a radio. That would be a long day for me.  :nixweiss:

I think the most I have ever rode is about 800 miles. To do any more, is a real feat to me even with a radio.  Lots of 5 hr energy drink for me  ;D

I can do 5-600 on my SERK3, really don't think i could do more on a UC, just for the simple fact of 19 yrs. and way over 2,000,000 miles in a 18 wheeler.

When I lived in MN I did the mini Iron Butt rides 1000 in 24 hours and in 2000 I did the two day 2000 miles. I went 2400 miles in those two days. Stopping a bunch to get points makes it a very long day. I have no idea how they do the real Iron Butt.

The furthest I ever rode was Vail, Colorado to Riverside, CA in one day. I don't remember the distance. On a Road King you will be good for a minimum of 300 miles and a maximum of whatever combination your butt, back, shoulders, neck, and mind can take.

Shortest route on Google maps says 889 miles. A couple other route options go just over 1000. Nce ride!

The opposite for me.  Only play the radio when local.  When on the road more than an hour I always shut it off.  If heading straight to the highway never turn it on.  Distracts the Zen thing that helps settle me in to the rhythms of the road.

Not sure on the King but I figure 600 in a day should not be bad, as I have done 625 on a Fatboy in a day.  I have also done 550 in a day on the fatboy with a passenger.

I have done three 700 plus mile days in a row on the Road Glide.

My wife has done 1500 in 36 hours on a Heritage, and the same 700 plus miles 3 days in a row on the heritage.

Well the nice thing about having a radio is that you can turn it off when you want the rhythms of the road, and turn it on when you want a report on road conditions and traffic.  Mileage is a changing thing for me. Some days I think, I'm only going to go XXX amount of miles and then find myself going more. Other days I think I can go further and then find myself looking for lodging a lot sooner than expected. For me it's become a feel thing that's not tied to any expectations.....most of the time anyway.

Our first two bikes were WideGlides (still have the second one).  I've done 600+ many, many times on it, once you get the seat and pegs right.  With "the better half" behind me, we've done two 500 mile days back to back to/from Sturgis.

Now that we have the Ultra SE6, she says there's no limit on how far she can go in a day.  I haven't put her to the test yet, but she has done 500 in a day on it behind me.  Looking forward to a longer trip.
