If you walked over $308 then you didnt really want the bike.

I probably overpaid for my 06 that I bought last month, but I really wanted the bike and when buying used thre arent as many choices.

Since the dealer is local you will have to beat their deal by quite a bit to justify going out of area to get your bike.  I've bought two bikes from dealers who were several hundred miles away and going to get the bike involved long drives and overnight stays.  That adds considerably to the total cost.

Unless you consider flying to a fun location and riding the bike home a fun experience. I've purchased my last 4 vehicles in cities far enough away I that I flew in and rode/drove them home. I actually enjoy the experience. Distances varied from 450-1,100 miles. I just keep in mind the expenses associated with the trip when I'm negotiating the price. Don't need to get it all back. The fun experience is worth something. JMHO

I realize it's hard to believe but these $25-$35K bikes are generally impulse buys. No one really needs them so we all spend a lot of time rationalizing why we pay this or do that. The dealer needs to sell the bike a lot more then you need to buy it but there WILL be another impulse buyer walking through the door shortly after you leave and CVO's do really stick to impulse buyers.

My personal view is always let someone else take the first bite and save several thousand on a lightly used bike that's 1-5 years old (usually with at least a few mods I would have made anyway that I now get for free). Driving a brand new vehicle is nice but it carries a HUGE price premium.

In your case, you definitely made the right decision. Be sure the dealer has your number. Feel free to show him a listing of similar bikes at other dealers. Let him know you are shopping and will be sure to purchase the thousands of dollars of add ons to the bike you get at his shop when you reach a deal for the bike at another dealer. Consider looking on Chopper Exchange, CraigsList, and ebay for the bike you want. There are tons of 2012's showing up and your color is bound to be out there. Lots of other impulse buyers jumped on board earlier in the year and now are regretting the purchase, found a new shiny object, or don't want to hear it from their spouse anymore so they're looking to dump their bike. It probably already has a new exhaust and a few $K in other goodies, some you might even like.

I enjoy the hunt as much as the score so our personalities may differ but if you look online you will find there is no shortage of low mileage, well maintained CVO's of all years, models, and colors.

Good luck with your hunt!

Or orange perhaps?

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/mcy/3263202459.html

Here's one someone put a truckload of money in they'll never get back:

One of several on Chopper Exchange - 1,700 miles:

At least print a few of these off and show them to your dealer. These bikes are NOT rare!

Kingspoke, ya better jump on that one in Orlando Buy early posted from craigslist.  Might as well still call that one new with 1,900 miles for $32,900.  As you know list in that is $37K.  Buy a ticket to Orlando and ride it home....still save a bunch... :2vrolijk_21:

Kingspoke, instead of putting all that money into your current ride, may want to wait for that CVO.
Wait for the CVO, stand your ground with this or any dealer when it comes to a purchase.  Here's one for you...stick with the $154 difference but ask for 20% discount on all parts/accessories/service for the first year or two.  You save money, the dealer makes a sale and gets you back on parts and service.... :2vrolijk_21:

Good luck and keep us informed on how this one develops... :bananarock:

I follow your logic and that's a great angle with the 20% discount, if they go for it.  It's a win/win!

It's not that I really didn't want the bike, it was an unexpected stalemate and the realization that I don't need the bike, coupled with taking on additional expenses.  None of us need a CVO, it's just outright lust for a very nice toy.  I went by my instincts on the deal and so did the Bossman! ;D

Buy Early & Often, you're right on the money (pardon the pun) & you came up with some great alternative bikes!  I'm still sifting through them and would jump all over the Orlando deal if I was there.  Thanks!

This 06 is my second CVO.  I plan on only purchasing used CVOs in the future.  I pretty much turn my bikes into CVO clones anyway, and it ends up being cheaper to buy the CVO upfont.

There are lots and lots of low mileage CVOs for sale on any given day.  I paid 20k for my 06 with 5,000 miles on the clock.  Really, other than 7 cubic inches of engine, whats the big difference between my 06 and a 13?  A few things, but not a lot.

My preference is the pre-09 bikes anyway.  They fit me better and I like the ride better.  I also prefer the 103 over the 110.

Now if I had unlimited funds, I would buy a new CVO every year, probably the first production model built.....just because I could.

I'm glad you like your bike, but there most definitely A LOT of differences between a 2006 SEUC and a 2013 SEUC.

BMCGC, I agree that the pre-09's ride smoother in part because of the flex in the frame.  When MoCo went with the stiffer frame to improve handling there was a little trade off.

The way I ride, I could never go back to the pre-09's because of the handling improvements, but I was not happy with the harsh ride of my 2011, and put some progressive 412's on back.  They're better than stock but not where I want to be, so I'll probably go with Ohlins or Progressive 944's.  I'm not a fan of the stock Dunlops either. They're not bad, there is just better performing tires out there.

I don't have a bunch of cash lying around either, so the used (previously loved) CVO's might be my best option, especially with the 13's arriving.

You can say that all day, but there arent a lot of differences, at least not a lot that really make a difference.  Same front end, same suspension, same engine, the biggest difference is the frame and the rear end.  Just because its different doesnt mean its better.  Case in point:  Throttle by wire IMO is not better, its worse.

King:  I ride fairly whimpy, my go fast days are way behind me, plus my misses who has only been riding a few years is usually with me on her RKC, so I take it nice and easy.

A big AMEN to that!!!  My '04 SEEG nearly threw me off four or five times.  'Course if you actually like riding a hinge, it might be okay.
