You can say that all day, but there arent a lot of differences, at least not a lot that really make a difference.  Same front end, same suspension, same engine, the biggest difference is the frame and the rear end.  Just because its different doesnt mean its better.  Case in point:  Throttle by wire IMO is not better, its worse.

King:  I ride fairly whimpy, my go fast days are way behind me, plus my misses who has only been riding a few years is usually with me on her RKC, so I take it nice and easy.

I rode a 2004 SEEG that I bought brand new right up to May of this year when I traded it for a '12 SEUC.  The '04 is truly comparable to your '06, but compared to the '12, it's apples and oranges.  I tried to convince myself of your arguments for several years.  Then I actually went out and got the new bike.  ABS brakes are better.  Integrated IPOD and GPS is better.  6-gallon tank is better.  Handling is better (even with the same suspension, though I upgraded mine).  Stock-for-stock, the power is better.  Overall, the bike is just ........ better.

Agreed!  Last year I pulled the trigger on buying an '07 Ultra CVO without taking into consideration the lack of ABS braking.  Not too long after buying, I locked it up when a cage cut in front of me and stopped in traffic.  I was only inches from the bumper once stopped, but only my years of riding saved my butt.  A new rider would have been toast.  At that point, I realized I missed the ABS I had on my other big cruiser.  Consequently, I'll be selling this bike in a few months and looking for a moderately used 2009 CVO SERG - with ABS!

This bike runs great and has been a hoot to ride, but for me the ABS is an important difference between pre 2008 bikes - 6 gal fuel tank, larger rear tire and frame (2009) withstanding.

To each his own.  I had an 09 Electra Glide Standard, IMO the 06 CVO and my misses 07 RKC outhandles the 09 hands down.  I would like to have ABS, the big Hondas have linked brakes, hit the front or rear brake and all three calipers engage.  Either system is an improvement over my 06s brakes.  I give you the brakes are better, but not enough to make me spend another 20k.  How about cats in the headpipes, are those better?  I had a few problems with TBW, no problems with good old cables.  6 galons is nice, but Im old and need to stop every hour or so.  The big tire is nice especially if you haul heavy loads.

Im happy with my 06, you 09+ guys are happy, so we are all happy.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ..... the salesman called me this morning & left a message to call him.  When I called back he said would I still go with the deal of splitting the $308 & I said yes, but I didn't think Bossman would go for it.  He said he would call back.  He then leaves another message saying he's got good news and to call him back.  Meanwhile I get a second call from the finance guy, who goes over the entire stalemate, asking why I would not just pay the $308, etc. etc. He tells me what a great deal I got, and how they can't really go any farther as it's eating up the profits, etc. etc.  I tell him his boss doesn't need the sale and I don't need the bike, so let's just call it a day.  He then says will you go for $150 in store credit (Duh), and I said yes.

So I'll meet tomorrow and see if he has any new rope-a-dope or if I'll be riding home on a new CVO Ultra.  Honestly after all that and too much time, now I have cold feet.  And the deal strikes me as OK but no great.

Here's the deal, $38,805 OTD (tax is $3,200 at 8.25% & DMV is $375 + 3,575), so $38,805 - $3,575 = $35,230 selling price.  MSRP is $37,449 ($200 Ca. Emissions) & does not include freight $380 or set up fee (bunk imo) $1,048.  So from my perspective I'm getting $2,219 + $150 (gift certificate) off the MSRP.

A) Does my numbers look correct given the tax & DMV?  B) Should the $380 be included in the MSRP? C) If I decide to trade in the offer would be 18K for the FLHTK (KBB says 18K for good condition, I recall NADA being 16-19K trade in (dealer's book).

I would call them in the morning and tell them that you are working on two other deals and that you will accept the best deal offered.

There are not a lot of guys storming the dealerships that have the cash or credit worthyness to buy a 38k motorcycle.

My thoughts are that they gave you what you asked for, and it's a fair deal, so why back out?  You will love the bike....if you get it.

This.. as you set the terms...

you got what you wanted, so why not... and as you said.. as long as the numbers are what they are supposed to be.

X2, That's the deal he wanted. One thing to consider is building a good relationship with the dealer also. Goes a long way in the service department.

Jump in it!  As the others have said it's the deal you wanted, the price you asked for and the bike you want.  Can't get much sweeter than that.  Look forward to the pics on the new scoot... :bananarock:

What you have to watch for is 2k off sticker, then 2k off your trade.  They know all the tricks, the earlier comment about establishing a relationship with the dealer is BS.  In todays business model, you are not a valued customer, you are only todays deal.  Its odd that the dealers up north and in California are offering discounts on CVOs, while the dealers here in the south are still pushing markups on CVOs.  The dealer in Macon is only getting five 2013 CVOs and those will be sold before they even arrive.

Ive decided that future bikes will be CVOs but Im buying used.
