Has anyone tried mounting any tires other than the stock 401? I would like to try Dunlop Elite 3 160/80/16 But in the past I have had trouble getting any tire other than the 401 up on the bead. Michelin and Metzler 150/80/16 work but they are not as wide as the 401. Thanks, Larry
The Elite 3 160/80B16 is actually slightly narrower than the 401 you currently have, 6.10" versus the 6.20" of the 401 according to Dunlop's spec sheets. It also has a higher load rating, 80 versus the 71 of the 401, and Dunlop recommends a 3.50" wide rim whereas your stock rim is 3.00" wide. If you're trying to mount tires by hand, I can see where it would take more effort to mount a tire that isn't really designed for a 3.00" rim and is also probably stiffer.
If all you're looking for is wider, I think you already have the widest tire you can easily install on that 3.00" rim.
Here's a link to the Dunlop web page for your tires, click on the more info button under the photo and description if you want to see the detailed specs.
