Tour Pak removal and amp
« on: September 15, 2012, 02:16:42 PM »

Opinions please:

My misses thinks she wants an Ultra, but wants the tour pak detachable.  She would only use it a couple times a year when we take a long trip.

What if I relocated the rear amp into a saddlebag and used it to power speakers in the lowers or saddle bag lids?

I moved my amp up on top of the radio in the fairing and just did a little rewiring. Also had to remove the cb and xm modules but I didnt use those anyway. Did this on my 06 SEUC

The amp under the tourpak is a bit large. It and the connector requires lots of space and will occupy most of your saddlebag.

There are plenty of smaller and better performing amps available. Installing a new amp(s) would be my recommendation.

Is there a plug and play replacement amp for the one under the tour pack?  One that will work with out loosing any of the functions of the stock system? If there is can you please let me know the name and model of the aftermarket amp. cheers.

No, there is no 'plug and play' replacement. I looked extensively before diving in.

Any amplifier install becomes a custom job. It isn't hard but it takes some time and research to determine what you want and how to get there. Do a search in this section and you will find lots of examples. Plus, many of us are here to help if you go the 'do it yourself' route. TIF2 was a big help to me and others on this forum. Just raise your hand.  ;)

I took the easy route and put the amp in the left saddlebag. No burden to me.
