I've had it for as long as I can remember.  Don't notice it most of the time now.  Too many loud noises.

Have tried that approach Lou.  It works swimmingly; some of the time.  Can get a guy in trouble though.

Where I'm screwed is places with background noise.  Can hear well and do great on hearing tests because the room is clean.  But in a bar or somelace like that I can't pick the local conversation out of all the background noise.  God knows what chit I agree to sometimes.

Read somewhere that 20% - 1 in 5 people - are afflicted with this condition. It is typically associated with some hearing loss. I'll bet many more have it than statistics might suggest.  Mine has not stopped since finishing a ride from So Cal to Prescot AZ about 20 years ago  Increased stress seems to exaggerate the problem and acceptance seems to help.  With time it becomes a part of your new normal. Protecting your hearing from more damage is important. I use ear plugs all the time now.

I can tell you with great confidence that tinnitus can be cured! I've seen it done!

It's your choice whether or not you believe it but like Spada said... he notices things that make it worse! Go to someone in alternative medicine who eliminates allergies... Have the allergy eliminated and the tinnitus will be gone!

The challenge is... To figure out what the allergy is that's making it worse! For everyone it's different.

If even one of you do this then it wil have been worth my taking the time to post.

How does that work for someone with no known allergies... I mean nothing.  Except maybe Poison Ivy?

My ears ring all the time. I used to make service calls on grain dryers. Loud, large fans running so fast they scream, almost to the point of hurting your ears. I'd stick my head inside to see how the burners were firing and come out with my ears aching. Had a technician come help me with a troublesome dryer and he put on goggles and ear muffs before starting. I remember thinking...What a sissy.. If I knew then what I know now. Add shotguns, rifles, motorcycles, rock and roll, and other things at work, and I struggle wth hearing.

Crowded bar..forget it..I sit and smile, never hearing what anyone says. But, I can hear  squirell cutting a hickory nuts 100 yards away. Found out some frequencies, I'm completely deaf.

I rode the 09 SERG home from the dealer with the short windscreen. Short 35 mile home. Absolutely HURT my ears. I couldn't hear for 2 days. Ever since, the wind noise hurts me while riding.

One good thing about my hearing loss is..I have a good excuse of why I didn't carry out the garbage..I didn't hear her.

I recently rode out to Spokane for the West Coast GTG. Now for being on the road 15 days I wore ear plugs for the days I rode on the interstate. Around town not at all. I don't consider my bike to be really loud, but I think from the wind blowin by my ears at 80 and 85 mph for hours upon hours going cross country kicked my ass. When I got home my ears rang for days. Same thing with me , guns, aircraft turbine engines, working 35 yrs in loud places. And yes when I dicovered Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix I couldn't get it loud enouph. Dumb choices on my part. But yes I hear the ringing in my ears constantly. I will get the ear plugs made for me that are custom molded into your ear canal. Saw them being done in Sturgis this year. I shoulda had it done there. But I didn't make the time for it.
I just had the Hawg Wired 4 in your face system installed on my scoot, that's not gonna help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!        Fuzz  :coolblue:

Okay, guys, now I'm getting paranoid. :nervous: :nervous:

I found very soon after buying my bike that I can hear a high pitched, raspy crackly sound when I ride.  At first I thought it was some kind of echo, or a resonating frequency from the drivetrain that was being reflected off the inside of my helmet, but it happens with a both full face and half helmet.  It's less noticeable at lower exhaust volumes, and if I yawn or try to pop my ears, it decreases, but doesn't go away.  Wearing good ear plugs almost gets rid of the noise.

I don't have a constant ringing in my ears (yet), just when I ride.

Is this tinnitus?  Does anyone else have similar symptoms? :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

I've done everything wrong that you could possibly do I guess. Shooting guns, working around large industrial equipment, drag racing, motorcycles and loud music from our early days playing gigs with the likes of Black Oak Arkansas. I never wore ear protection, period. Now my doctor tells me that I've lost 30% of my hearing and I'm looking at hearing aids within the next 3-5 years. Tinnitus is very real and all too common and yes it sucks immensely. I bitch at my son all the time now about him not wearing ear protection. Live and learn.

Lilcoot,

If your bike is on the loud side and you are exposed to other sources of loud noises as listed on this post than you are at risk.  I'm not sure but what you are describing is what I started to hear when all this started out.  Best thing to do is follow th expert advice given on this post and protect your hearing.  For the most part hearing damage is pretty much permanent.

I use these below for long trips and love them.  Very comfortable plus I can still hear music and conversations with them.
