2008 SERK and the 110 CID
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:14:48 AM »

My neighbor/friend has found a 2008 SERK with 800 miles on if For Sale.
Mike said it appears to have all of the OEM Equipment, I sent him a complete list to check it out when he goes to look at it.

Mike is a little concerned about the 110 Motor.
Does anyone have a list of things regarding 2008 SE 110 issues?

Thanks

That's not very many miles on an 08?  Any idea on why it has so few miles?  I know you have been on this forum for some time and you seem to be knowledgable on the CVO's.  Other that the campain for head gaskets I'm not aware of many big issues.  I found the suspension very poor and solved that with the Traxxion set up in the front & rear.  I have close to 60,000 miles on my 08 SERK without any motor issues other than running extremely hot.  I would like to sell it for a newer bike the high mileage makes it almost impossible to get a fair deal.  If you have anything specific let me know & I will try to help.  I would recommend the SE compensator when he is in the primary area, that seems to be a fairly common upgrade on the early 110's.  Almost forgot the 08's were the first year with the TBW and I did have some issues with throttle lag, also went with the 30 Tooth set up for improved gearing, especially when riding two up.  A good set up by Steve @ Fullsak will cure the heat, throttle lag and give him a decent boost in HP & TQ.

I new about the heat issue . Maine doesn't require the CAT, so that could go.
Thanks for the head gasket and TBW Lagg info.. I also know a local HOG Member who has issues with the cut out 1 cyclinder at stops.

Mike is almost 70 and this could be his last bike, unless he goes to a side car some day, now desire for a trike.
I will see if he can find out why only 800 miles in 5 model years.

Hi,

Yes, I've owned one since June 2008 and have almost 50,000 Km's on her.  :cherry:
Three starters, Front brakes (ABS) and front fork chatter under braking.
All under warranty and have had the front brakes, and rotors replaced twice. Still not resolved.
Custom paint is now flaking off the front fender and gas tanks in chunks. Size of quarters!  :'(  :soapbox:
Chrome plating is pealing and falling off badging, foot controls etc...
Rim's are severely pitted.

Bike is washed, waxed and maintained regularly. I ride her hard and make sure she gets the best, no exceptions!
Maintenance and serviced at dealership with all the receipts to prove it!

For a FlagShip bike that is supposed to epitomize the best of Harley Davidson parts, paints, accessories and components - 4 years later I am seriously wondering what Harley Davidson is doing and why the CVO's are deteriorating in such a cheap and poor fashion. What happen to quality? Gone... Sad but true!
My riding buddies 2003 Road Glide is pristine compared to my 08 SERK, we are both dumb founded at the condition of my 2008 Screamin Eagle Road King.

If you can purchase through a dealership and get an extended warranty - DO IT!
Also see if the chrome and paint is covered too.
Best, Michael

Also Known Recall Issues:
110 heads - recall
Wiring harness - recall
Fuel/Gas Tank - recall
There's a fourth that I can't remember right now.

My riding buddies 2003 Street Glide is pristine

No such bike as a 2003 Street Glide.
Street Glides were 2006 and up.
