I'm finding out that if you ride your CVO and keep it in perfect shape the longer you own it the less the value of the bike is. Its kind of like a disposable paper cup. Use it and throw it away.SAD but True!!!

Ride it and enjoy it...

I had crazier lowball offers from private buyers than from the dealer. For a private party buyer I had the bike listed at a little over trade in because I was willing to include the xtended warranty/tire and wheel warranty, and leave all the extras on it. Guys were coming at me with $20K offers thinking they were doing me a favor.. and one guy have the balls to tell me a CVO wasnt worth any more than a standard RG. (needless to say I traded the bike in and made up all the excess in the take-off parts)

Last year I looked at trading a 2011 FLTRU for a 2012 BMW K1600 GTL and was offered $17k for it with under 1000 miles on it. The BMW dealer said they called the H-D dealership for the trade value. It was too low for me and I was disappointed after 3 test rides on the GTL. I ended up trading the FLTRU for a FLTRUSE with a $21k trade value. The BMW is a totally different experience - I would love to have both - but in the end, the Harley won out.

I have been trying to sell mine for the last 2 months below KBB with no takers. I will not sell my bike for trade in value. Makes no sense to me. If trading you pay tax on the difference owed.

Part of the issue is that the GTL retails for less than you would expect get for your CVO in trade.

Similar to cars, most dealers look at wholesale prices. That is mainly made up of auction values such as Manheim, etc. Bikes are a little tougher. Some dealers use trade in values of KBB or NADA then take more off. Remember they are going to re-sell to make a profit, don't know how long it will sit on floor, etc.  Also, this time of year is tough unless you are in a warm weather climate.
Trading in gives you a tax credit and you just drop they keys to the old bike and ride off on the new one.  I've sold bikes both ways. Private sale is always slot of work.

Most, if not all, dealers will call the local HD dealer and give them the bike info and Harley (local) will give them a price that they will pay BMW/Honda/other brands for the Harley that might be traded on their new bike. Most car dealers are the same and call local HD for the same deal and bid upfront prior to offing the Harley for a car... At least that is what I have seen and been told.

Buddy of mine traded 12 Skunk with 2000 miles and got 25800 (dumb). Another guy I was talking to got 29000 for another 12 (forgot color) with 9000 miles. Gotta fight for your bike and money I guess.

When I was asking what I could get for my 07 springer there was a range of $1000 difference, but then I wanted to trade for a Breakout, so the dealers knew they pretty much had me by the balls, but I did still save $1000 by going to get the bike and not get one from a closer dealer who would have to trade for one.  I did go through about a tank and a half of gas plus $100 on the rental for the trailer, so net gain was about $800.

Basically, the BMW dealer is not going to want your Harley, so he's going to offer you chit so he can immediately wholesale it and still make a couple of thousand dollars.  Unless your BMW dealer also sells new Harley Davidson bikes, which I imagine would be an extremely rare instance, people coming into the BMW dealership are looking for a BMW, not a HD, so he doesn't really want it on his showroom floor.  IMO, your only option is to sell privately unless you don't mind getting taken to the cleaners.  One other option might be to talk to your HD dealer and see if they will sell your bike on consignment if you don't want to fool with it yourself...the advantage there would be they can arrange financing for the buyer.

I was offered today at sunrise almost 33k  for my 12 sg. To buy a 2013 se ultra at msrp  I didn't do it. No dealer fees either.  I thought that was fair and I have 10k miles too.

My dealer is giving me $26K for my CUSE4 with 36K miles.  Last year, I looked at the BMW K1600 GTL when it first came out, and they offered me low 20's.  It was insulting!  I think that the current offer is fair, considering the miles, so I made the deal for a 2013 CUSE8-ANV.

I don't think my dealer's offer would have been significantly higher with less mileage, so no good reason to not pile up the miles.  No point in spending $38K for a trophy bike that sits in a garage!  I can enjoy staring at the bike when the streets are covered with snow, otherwise, it's on the road!
