Anyone ever changed the paint scheme on there CVO
« on: September 22, 2012, 06:16:12 PM »

Would like to know if any cvo owner ever has repainted there bike some other kind of custom paint job. I was thinking of this because I do not want to get rid of my 08 SERK, just losing my appeal for the anniversary duracell paint.

Short answer is yes several members on here have changed the color scheme on their CVOs. It may be hard to find but there are several photos of those bikes on this site.
There are many trains of thought on this topic.
You paid lot's of money for this paint scheme and at one time you liked it. If you are considering this a classic and want the mythical resale value to hold you would leave the bike stock if your were into antique vehicles in pristine condition.
Some have replaced all the tins on the bike with custom painted and either stored the CVO tins or sold them as a set to offset the cost of the custom paint. That is more of a street rod or "truly my own vision bike" mode.
Others have just changed things out slightly with pinstripes or just changing one color of the CVO paint scheme.
Just remember whatever mod you do to a bike you will never get your money's worth out of it so just do things that you can afford and you do it because it makes you happy.

I believe one member with a 04 Org-Blk SEEG flip floped the colors for a unique but original color change.

Neither, if you don't want to.  What difference does it make if two have the same color?   :nixweiss: You separate them by what accessories you put on it it.  (Bars, seats, lights, more chrome, etc.)  But everybody does what they want to do.  IMO, once you totally change the color, it's no longer a CVO, it is now a one-off custom.  And there's nothing wrong with that.

I can't remember Chuck's (in Georgia) site username.  But if someone can find the thread of his rework of his SEUC it was stunning.  It was an homage to the original paint scheme but raised the bar in every way.  So you can improve them.  Some may not like the idea but screw 'em.  It's everyone's individual bike to do as they see fit.

Were I inclined to do this I would likely start with other tins.  The CVO paint is too expensive and difficult to replace.  Straight used tins can be had cheaply enough it'd be more than worth the cost to keep the originals set back.

NB:    Chief.  I remember, site username is Chief.  If someone wants to see the best rework of a CVO paint scheme find Chief's thread detailing the resurrection of his SEUC.

The one I remember most was a guy who had a 2005 Cherry SEEG, his wife's bike, and she wanted a white bike. He had it painted white for her, then had it on ebay. This was a couple years ago when 18-20K was the price range, it sold for 12K. When my 2006 needed all new tins due to the factory dud paint the receipt was over 8K for all the parts, warranty of course, but 8K for everything but the inner fairing, bag lids, and rear fender! Unless you really are willing to keep the bike forever don't paint it, you'll regret it.

Chief... It's probably in this thread - To Paint or Not To Paint. That is the Question...... but I'm to lazy to look through all 35 pages to find it right now. ;D

Pics start here:

But it's all pics of painted parts.  No final assembly pics.  Maybe there weren't any?

I saw the bike in person at a couple of GTGs though.  With the painted to match trailer behind it.  Next to my red SERK it may be the best looking bike out there.

Here is the thread that had the frame powdercoated - Jester Rebuild From the Ground Up... pics of paint might be in that one also. (Only 20 pages to sift through on this one :D)
