Birds in my exhaust?
« on: September 24, 2012, 09:15:27 AM »

This past weekend I developed an annoying chirping sound.  At first I thought it was a bearing or lifters, but I think it is coming off the exhaust hangers.  I checked them and they are tight, no movement at all, so maybe not.

I hear it when the bike is stopped, I dont hear it moving.

Any ideas?

Spray a little silicone on them see if they quiet down.

Check your exhaust heat shields, they may be loose, spray some lube on the motor mounts, and spray some lube on the rails under your saddlebags.

agree with the other suggestions.  I too had one and it was driving me insane.  I finally traced it to where the turn signals bolt on.  loosened, silicone spray, re-tightened.  Good since then.

Try tightening all the exhaust heat shield clamps. Generally this eliminates the chirping.

Spray a little silicone on them see if they quiet down.

Like Rooster says, try silicone on the hangers. Where the metal goes through the rubber part is where mine were chirping......
