If I read correctly, then 15 out of 42 deaths this year in Oahu are motorcyclists? :'( :'(

Seems like I did read somewhere that motorcyclists are 35 times more likely to die while riding than cagers.

Those are sobering numbers.  Drive safely, everyone.

Yup... the helmet debaters arent touching this one.... the split is almost 50/50

Last week the rider was wearing ahelmet, hit a tree at high rate of speed.. shattered his helmet as well as his skull. witnesses said it was pretty ugly.

Hard to pin it down, there are of course so many reasons for these tragedies, but when I read so many of these articles I read over and over again the issue of "speed"..And we all see these bikes FLY past us constantly..(and i personally just shake my head) it just makes me wonder?? If that one element was reduced, what would be the overall result?

I wont criticize speed.... as I am guilty of flying more than cruising.

However, speed in excess for road conditions is always bad....

Went through the phase (my "wild hair" days) and bought a 'Busa.  Kept it 6 months and realized that when I popped a wheelee at 90 on the interstate, it was time to get rid of it or it was going to get rid of me.  Bikes bring so much pleasure, therapy and fun into life but are very dangerous and speeding amplifies that danger.  I get it...it's a rush.  But I prefer the rush of the wind in what is now grey hair and not the rush of the ambulance going to the hospital...been there-done that.

It's sad to continue to hear about these incidents and it hurts in my gut every time.  To quote the character Phil Esterhaus "Let's be careful out there".

Same here I like to go fast sometimes. I hate following slow riders who are sight seeing! 10 miles under the speed limit and all over the road! I followed a hd trike a few miles yesterday and that dude is headed for some hurt! Left wheel over the yellow line 90% of the time. One side of the lane to the other in every curve! Looked like a accident waiting to happen. Now on the speed thing. I would like to think after all these years I am smart enough to know the limits of my bike, and my riding. I learn early on with my stock 85 FXRS that the bike was way faster than the handling. I think it is true of all bikes. that being said there is a time and a place for speed and its never after drinking! Face
