Should I keep both bikes?
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:38:00 PM »

Hey Guys,

I just picked up a 2012 SG CVO.

Now, I have 2 bikes. The other one is an ultra that isn't that old.

Should I keep both bikes?

I don't see myself riding both bikes that often.

I guess I'm torn because I put a lot of time and money into the ultra.

Just wanted to get your opinions.

Thanks!

I say keep both. Once my RK is delivered I'll have two touring bikes, but I think they serve different purposes. If I were you I would use the SG for shorter trips and the Ultra for longer ones.

A wise friend of mine said "never sell a paid for motorcycle". Sounded like sage advice to me.

If it's paid for and you can afford to keep it, keep it. Besides you never know when you'll need a spare. ;D

I was in your boat in 2009 when I got my second CVO. I had a 2006 Ultra CVO that I loved but wanted the SERG. I kept them both until recently. I found I wasn't riding the Ultra very much so I sold it. It sure cleared up some garage space and gave me some needed money.
I figure I can get a detachable Tour Pak if I ever travel a long way and need the storage.

Been there and done that.  I only average about 5k miles a year so it didn't make sense for me to have two bikes.  To me the SESG serves both purposes for short and long trips so your covered there.  That's just my thoughts.

You could let me keep it in my garage for you. I'll make sure it gets used....

I was torn with the same decision.  Had a 03 SERK and bought a 2010 SESG.  The SERK was paid for, was in immaculate condition, and I loved that bike.  However, I decided to trade the SERK in after these considerations:

a. I would most likely gravitate towards riding the new bike over the SERK.
b. They were both touring bikes (might have kept the old bike if it had been a softtail).
c. If I'm not going to ride the SERK that much, I'm still paying full insurance.
d. Garage space.
e. Cost of maintaining two bikes
