Route 66 - from Chicago to L.A.
« on: September 26, 2012, 05:34:15 AM »

On the first of september we (10 bikes, 21 persons and 2 cars for the luggage)
left Switzerland for our Route66-Adventure. We started with day-off in Chicago,
where we made a bus-tour and visited the local hd-dealer. The next day we made
a tour to the HD-Museum in Milwaukee. On Tuesday we picked up our bikes at the
Eaglerider-station and headed out for route66.

We made overnight-stays at Pontiac, St. Louis, Lebanon, Tulsa, Clinton,
Amarillo, Tucumcari, SantaFe, Gallup, Williams, Needles, Victorville until
we reached L.A. at the 17th. We stayed for 2 additional days at L.A., where
we made a hop-on-off-tour and some others must-have-seen.

After 2558 miles, 3 time-zones, 1515 pics and around 42GB of videos, I'll
leave you with a daily video of our trip. Only 3 times we had to take the
rain-suites out of the saddlebags, the rest was sunny & a lot of fun.

bandit,

Great videos and photo's!!  I live just outside Tulsa, OK.  I've been a Route 66 "nut" all of my life (I'm 60).  Down thru the years, I've ridden most of Rt 66 in MO, all of KS, OK & TX (multiple times!), and most of NM, AZ & CA.  Some day I want to do it all in one ride just like you did.

Thanks for coming to the USA!

Take care,
Joe

Wow, you must've been some tired muchachos by the time you reached LA!  Thanks for sharing your trip. :2vrolijk_21:

Just curious... what were your impressions between Wisconsin and New Mexico?  I understand the historical appeal of Rte 66, but riding through much of that area has been outlawed by the Geneva Convention, because it it can be construed as torture.    :dizzy2: :dizzy2: :dizzy2:  In a recent survey, 9 out of 10 people surveyed said they'd prefer water boarding over traveling from Wisconsin to New Mexico via rte 66!  (90% of all statistics are made-up, btw.)  Interesting choices for your overnight stays, also.  :nixweiss:

Anyway, hope you were treated well and have only fond memories of your trip. Come again!  :orange: :mango: :bananarock: :apple: :cucumber:

Imagening, that many people did this road in the early 30's,
made this journey interesting. You have to see the "less-touristical"
areas of a country too, otherwise you are not able to make
a reasonable judgement about that country.

We had a lot of fun and good memories, met no cvo-bikers
on the road, but some member from the Route 66 HOG-Chapter, OK.

Yes, I met DGCVO and his wife Lana at the HD-Museum, as we started our trip.
First day we made a hopon-hopoff in Chicago, second day we made the HD-Museum
and on the third day, we picked up our bikes and started the real journey.

The oldest member in our HOG-Chapter will celebrate
his 80th birthday next year and he stills travels about
12-15000miles a year on this Fatbob. That should be
our goal as well!!!!!
