Did the new bars require new cables?

Yes, one clutch cable and one brake line (from the bars to the ABS box).  I used these guys http://hdbikeparts.com/  aka Johnny Vaughan.  There is a thread here if you are going 575's or 578's (10" bars) you may be able to get away with stock cables/lines.

I had some Santee 11" on my 2011 FLHTK and I used the stock clutch cable but changed out the brake line.

The Chubby bars were inexpensive ($187, Powersport Superstore) and the install was $450 by a local indy, as opposed to $1,000 - $1,500 a lot of dealers on the west coast charge.  Just change upper brake line & clutch cable http://hdbikeparts.com/ .

Very comfortable bars, do not interfere with (pulled back) GPS, and you retain the heated grips.

Thanks long last (...is what she said)!  I think you would love these or better yet the 575's and you can keep your mitts behind the fairing and not change the brake or clutch cable.  Of course you retain the heated grips anyhow, but I bet it can get quite cold in your neighborhood!

          That is so true, the weather can change from sun, to fog, drizzle ran, down poor, bake to sun in the mater of just 2hrs.  I'll check those 575's out
