Getting back to the original question here.  I had the same thing happen to my 2000 SERG last year.

Walked out battery dead, figured it was its time, got a new one, about a month later same deal, deader than dirt.  They replaced it since it was less than six motnhs old and just figured it was bad from the get go, a couple of months later it happened again.  Most likely not two bad new batteries.

Went to check the voltage regulator and noticed that the insulation on the wires were skinned up outside the case and obviously had touched the frame at some point, killing the batteries.  Could be simple.

< Right side cover behind the ECM is a black box. That is it!!! After removal there is a 9 volt battery in there.!!!! Hope this helps. >

Tried this today.  Bought an alkaline 9V battery and found that it has a rechargable nickel hydride 9V.  Tried the alkaline 9V (ignition off) and no change.  Should this work with a regular battery or only with the NH battery?  It could be possible that the siren is bad also.  Makes a sound but it is weak and sounds a bit "sick".

You may have a bad siren. I took mine out completely. You don't need it, the lights still flash and the bike won't start when the alarm is set.

Had the same problem on the used-to-be-mine-05 a few years ago.  Did the same thing with the good intent of fixing it right away.  Forgot about the siren and didn't get it replaced for about a year.

Twolane mine has been off for over 2 years. It is in one of my kitchen drawers. I brought it down from the shop to put a battery in it and didn't have a 9v battery(which is rare) So I have really forgoten about it and have been riding without. Oh and just a side note, in 2004 they had a standard battery in them.

What kind of tuner do you have on the bike???? There a problem with one of them that was causing the batteries to drain. A reload of the same map is all it takes to fix the problem.
