How did Harley make the 103?
« on: October 01, 2012, 02:21:14 PM »

You cant make an 88 into a 103 without bottom end work, and the 96 came out in 07.

So in 06 how did Harley make the 103?

I believe the 103ci is a stroked 88ci (4.375 stroke) with larger jugs (3.875).

The 96" is an 88" with the stroker crank.  Add the big bore jugs (which we all did to our 88s to make them 95s) and you have the 103".

So does my 103 have the same bottom end as the 96?

No.  The 103 from 2006 was the stroked and larger displacement version of the 88" motor.  Also accurate to say it was a stroked version of the 95" motor.

The later 96" is a much different beast; as is the later 103" and 110" displacement engines that the 96" motor grows to.

basically your 88 started with a 4 in stroke crank and bore got you to a 95,  bore and stroke of 3/8 got you to a 103,  the 96 started with the stroke 4.3/8th and same bore as a 88, but a whole different crank as for as compensator and primary,  so no nothing is interchangable as far as cases , and crank or primary from the early 88 06 and older and the later 96 from 07 on
