Interesting Development
« on: October 03, 2012, 02:17:14 PM »

Just brought the new ride to the dealer for the first service and to fix a few issues like the clutch lever rattle and a fairing / handlebar mis-alignment. The bike was also handling in a different manner than any other ElectraGlide I have ever owned. The dealer calls me about 3 hours after I dropped the bike off and tells me that the triple clamp was mis-drilled at the factory for the bar mounts, causing the whole front end to be tweaked when it gets tightened up. They also feel this may be a contributing factor to the handling issues I experienced. A new triple clamp is on order, so it will be a while before I swing a leg over the new girl again. Damn!

I guess this is a new 'low' for quality control at the MoCo.  Sounds like something a novice builder would do under the shade tree.  :-[ spyder

Did you ask about a loaner?

Nah....I'm headed out on my honeymoon so I won't be riding for a bit. I'd rather they take their time and make it right.

Well can't ride the bike, might as well get married... :2vrolijk_21:

Congrats on the nuptials and sorry about the issues with the bike.  I agree with Eagle Eye on how in the crap did this one make it past the QA factory checks?  >:( That is actually borderline neglect.  While it did cause a handling issue, it's a good thing the Lord was watching out for you as it could have caused much worse...

Beats me on how it made it out of the factory that way....first issue I ever had in 20+ plus years of Harley ownership, just not something you expect on a $20K bike much less a $40K bike. When I rode the bike home from the dealer, it felt like I was riding on marbles....not planted but not totally out of control. I figured new bike, new tires....probably just me getting used to the bike. When I got home I checked the tire pressure and it was at least 10 pounds low in both tires. I did give the dealership manager an earful this morning about that, but in deference to the dealer, they got the bike from another dealer who actually uncrated and set up the bike. Still, they should be checking pressures and fluid levels at a minimum. This dealer has treated me well in the past and they are doing the right thing now so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt......for now!

Hate to break the news..........but the same factory trained folks that build it are gonna repair it. Maybe it should be f*cktory trained :drink:

I believe these parts are made on a computer driven milling machine. How many others are wrong...

I worked in auto dealerships for many years, prep sometimes was a joke, but we did at least look it over check tire presures and drive the vehicle. When I picked up my CVO it had less than one mile on it. It had about ten issues that if I was to have ridden it home it would not have made it. I have serious concerns about quality. Yes for darn near 40 grand it should be a Rolls Royce in quality. Second tank and still the emblems are the same. Rattles in the motor so bad that if I built it I would take it apart and figure what was wrong. An answer like they all do it kills me. I love the bike but feel HD has a long way to go to be a quality bike builder. Plus the techs or the dealership, don't do their job either.

Jigged up in the tools that do that work that's... well...

Ok, I'd be as likely to doubt the dealer's diagnosis as I would that the machining was that far off.  Whatever is going on hope they get you sorted out.

Anyone else wondering if the dealership did something screw up a tree and it's just easier to blame the manufacturing process?
