2013 RGC CVO advertised Torque #'s
« on: October 10, 2012, 02:33:49 PM »

Hey Guy's,

I am new to the CVO world and am trying to get a base understanding of where my bike is really at compared to the #'s I am seeing on the Dyno sheets on this web site.

I am assuming the 122 #'s torque MOCO is advertising for my 2013 RGC CVO is at the flywheel, how would this translate to rear wheel torque. What kind of efficiency loss does the drivetrain consume.

The bike pulls strong up to about 4800 to 5000 RPM and then goes flat. I am not looking for a race bike, but I would like it to pull a little harder in the 4800 to 5300 RPM range. Would putting on a Drago or D&D 2 into 1 exhaust combined with a good tuner and dyno tune add anything to this RPM range?  Or do I need cams to add some torque in this range and not lose the bottom end torque???

That's a complicated question.  Your stock bike puts out roughly 95TQ at the rear wheel and about 80HP.  A reasonable expectation from an exhaust change (you already have a high flow A/C) and a good tune would be 94HP/110TQ +or- 2/2  You can feel that with the seat of your pants.  If you start chasing numbers, getting power in all RPM ranges, etc, it's a whole different ballgame and depends on how deep your pockets are and what you want to achieve.  The stock cams pretty much die after about 4200 RPM, but pull pretty well from about 2200-4200...right where most people ride 90% of the time on a bagger.  If you do a search here for "cams", "110 cams", etc. you can get all the late night reading you would ever want.  And all the opinions you'd ever want to hear too.

GENERALLY speaking, it's not easy to get  great numbers at both ends of the RPM spectrum.  It can be done, but it's not inexpensive to do so.  There are a few "bolt in" cams that can certainly improve things a bit without going nuts chasing big numbers.

Thanks for the reply Midnight,

If I could get that kind of response from exhaust and a good tune, then I would most likely do that and be happy.

Are the 255's the stock cams in our 110 CVO's???

I am not much on winding them real tight, but I sure do like that "stump pulling" roll on the throttle torque.

I don't want to give up my lower end power and if I have to chose, then I will stay stock and "tune er up" the best I can.

There are several cams out there that'll aid in getting rid of heat better that that emissions 255, without sacrificing any/much the low-end of that school-bus cam.

OK "Obi-Wan Kenobi"...we have all heard about the "usual suspects" (Andrews 57, Cycle Rama 575, Fueling etc.)...tell us which one you would use and recommend for just a cam swap that is not pipe dependent .

One other thing...what about the new Woods 888 cam?

Yes, they are 255's.  And Obi-Wan is right, there are other cams that will get rid of some more of the heat the 110 generates.  When it's time for me to start being worried about failing lifters, which I figure will be at about 25-30K, then a bolt in cam will be something I will consider, for sure.  An exhaust change and a good tune(r) will wake the bike up and make better drivability, so you can always do things in progressive stages when the need or desire hits you.
