Cam and lifter damaged but nothing else.

If your lifter was seized and skidding instead of rolling the lifter might have expanded from the heat and it may have impacted the bore for that lifter.
It is worth asking.

Was it the rear intake that had the lifter fail?  That's the one I had fail.
Just happens to be where the hottest temps would be.

Glad you will be riding soon but I am not sure you got the better deal if he is getting a new engine.

I premptively changed my lifters out when I did a cam change and adjustable pushrods.  Used S&S lifters and pushrods and it quieted down the top end noise

as it happens our crew is top notch, they took the chance to check every and anything (as they did last time at around 20.000 m before the bike went out of factory warranty, compensator and cam-chain-tensioners were exchanged), no other problems found (especially this time all tensioners and the compensator still in perfect condition).

After all the new problems Harley managed to build into the '10 and later 110s I'm quite happy to keep as much of my until now very reliable '09 build as possible  ;)

Down time was saturday to thursday, I got a Switchback during the repair and quite enjoyed it  :2vrolijk_21:

My bike has now 35 000 miles and I still the OEM lifters and chain tensioner, I have stage 1 with Vance & Hines true dual and monster oval slip-on, SESPT.
Now that I have read this thread, I am a little bit scared. Should I change everything preventively? Other question, when you change the lifters is it usefull or necessary to change also the pushrods?

The easy way to change the lifters is to use bolt cutters on the pushrods and replace with adjustable pushrods John. Otherwise, you have a lot more work at the top end to remove the pushrods.

Is that the only interest of an adjustable pushrod? Because if I have to change the chain tensioners I can change the lifter pushing them down, right?

Never tried - but I guess of the cams are out, the lifters can be changed from the cam chest.... Somebody who can think straighter than me will be along to advise on that I expect!  :)

... I don't remember hearing about roller failures on relatively stock bikes in the early years of the Twin Cam, but over the past three years or so there seems to have been a big up-tick in reports.

I already suffered fatal (OEM) lifter failure with a 05 FLHRCI 103 cui after about 20.000 m in 2006.

I've beenlooking on the S&S website and I couldn't find parts for the 110 engines there is just parts for the 88 and 96 engines. So if someone have the part number if would be great. I'm not specially set on S&S so if you have another brand ...

I don't thinks so.  The lifters will not clear the crank when you try to take them out from the bottom.

John Deuff, According to S&S the travel limiters come into effect at  high rpm which at that point act like a solid lifter. This info was from an S&S tech by telephone. CAHDBIKER
