So, I ordered the CVO Fullsac 2" cores for my 2012 SESG. What is the concensus on removing the stock insulation or leave it in with the new cores? I will be putting on the x-pipe C as well, just not right now. I plan on leaving the Cat in to keep the rest stock until I can change the pipes out for the Fullsac x-pipe C. This way I can return it all to stock if need be later on. Thanks for any advice!

Well, 1st get the XPipe on, get rid of the Cat.

I just switched from 13/4" cores to 2" cores, Both have the wrap on them.  I like the way the 2" cores sound, the are not really any louder, they are deeper in tone.

My vote is for leaving them wrapped.

I started w the 1.75" cores and just changed to the 2" cores.  Left the wrap on both and recommend that you do the same.  Dont wait on the X-pipe.  The 110 runs too hot out of the box.  Do your engine a favor and lose the cat ASAP.

I wrapped mine, but not as think, I removed about 1/2 the insulation and love the resulting sound.
I suggest you try it without and see how you like it, once the mod is done, it doesn't take long to drop them out and add the wrapping.
before I received my cores, I played with the stock cores, adding removing dropping the cores out completely so I had an idea of what I wanted to do with the Fullsac cores when they arrived.

Jim.  Why would you worry about returning to stock.  You're already thinking about the mufflers.  Do the whole system and with a good AC and tune you'll be good to go. Do the tts or something good like that and you'll be fine.

with my fullsac 2.25 SD ...seeing how the baffle has the cuts going only half way...I cut my oem packing on one side in half and packed both sides with half packing(covers perfect for the SD) ...have the other have now to repack if I ever want to and also have a great sound to them

Cool! Thanks for the advice. I plan on changing the whole system and do the TTS as well. I just have to wait for some more cash. The X-pipe "C" is the next step for me. I will leave the insulation in, the cores are supposed to be here tomorrow. Can't wait. Thanks again for all the information.

Leave them wrapped. The wrap eliminates the annoying high-frequency ringing sounds - and all you hear is the pleasing, good-sounding low-frequency sounds that make it sound like a Harley.

Leave them wrapped for sure. As said above it has a 'tinny' ring and sound without. But as always sound is objective.

Harley really stuffed the 2012-13 mufflers with packing! I remove half by cutting the blanket in half and loosely wrapping the core.
You want the core to breath. The increased volume in the muffler gives a deeper tone and recent dyno testing suggest better bottom end power too.

I've had the fullsac 1-3/4 baffle in my 09 serg for 25k er so, reused the stock insulation wrap and screen. My last tire change I had the mufflers off and heard a rattling sound in one. disassembled it to find all insulation was gone, it was the screen making the noise.  My point is the insulation wrap will dissipate over time leaving none. I still like my fullsac baffles. :2vrolijk_21: I didn't replace the insulation.

Without the insulation it was too loud for me and not a good sound.

Hard to beleive such could happen, your such a conservative rider!   Of course you prefer em naked anyway.

I've run mine naked and clothed. I prefer the naked sound.
