Heated Grips Operation
« on: October 18, 2012, 10:37:40 PM »

I turned on the heated grips for the first time on my 06 tonight.

How long does it take for the grips to warm?

Ive got a feeling mine are kaput, the seat started getting warm after only a minute or so, but I never felt any heat on the grips.

Mine start fast.  Check the fuses.  There are two, one for the heat and one to tell that the bike is turned on, usually connect to the acc. switch.

The ones on the '06 SEUCs had a high failure rate.  Yours very well could be gone.  You should start to feel them at least as soon you feel the seat.

They are kaput. Dump them and go with Heat Demons. No sense in buying an item with a high failure rate.

they should get real hot within almost no time, I normally have them at 2 on a cold day.

If you come to ask yourself if they work they don't.

On my 2nd pair after 40.000 m ...

If Mike Holland at HotGrips still made an internal wired grip I would buy them. Those were the BEST heated grips ever. They looked plain, but they kicked butt and never failed. But they don't make an internal wired grip any more and that's a shame. I prefer the clean look of internal wiring. So, it's Heat Demons on the Avon grips of my choice.
