Blowen Motor @ 26,600 miles!!
« on: August 28, 2006, 09:59:07 AM »

Well, it's happened. I was coming home Saturday morning from Santa Fe on my way to Dallas, just reaching the city of Amarillo when all of a sudden my bike lost power and started missing every once and a while. I pulled off and started checking things and found when I checked the oil, it was a quart low. This was very strange since I had just checked it before I left Santa Fe. Then I took off the air filter and found it totally saturated with oil. I cleaned the filter, put a quart of oil back in her and then started to bike back up and started back down the road to Tripps HD located there in Amarillo a few miles away. I didn't get very far and the bike missed a few times and just quit running. Called roadside assistance and had it taked over to the HD place. The HD place replaced the electrical sensor (cam timing sensor) by the oil filter saying it was bad. They started the bike up and WHAM.. there when the sensor again! They think I lost a bearing on the crank and something is loose enough inside to come up and keep hitting the sensor. I loaded my bike up on a uhaul and dropped it off at my HD shop here in Allen, TX and am now awaiting word from them explaining why this happened! The tech over at HD told me that I may have gotten one that didn't have the "new" torqe setting in the nut that holds the crank on or something like that..

Needless to say.. I AM PISSED!! 35K for the top of the HD line and this is what ya get?!? [smiley=soapbox.gif]

It does suck, but at least it will be repaired and you'll have a new motor.

Not sure if many have had a failure but let us know what they diagnose, if it's a torque issue, we better start checking it.

I'm thinking about putting that inner chrome primary on a Jim's 120, then replacing my tired old motor with that.. [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

When we were inside the shop I could hear some bottom noise.( I really had to listen for it.) When I was out on the road, traveling at 75 mph with the wind and the tunes playing... I didn't hear anything except the tunes..

See post #1

I was just returning home from 2 weeks in Santa Fe working. Left around 1 am and had rain off and on until I was outside of Amarillo. This is where post #1 takes off. Bike seem to be running good up till that point. (as it always seemed to..)

Well, I went over to the shop to look at the damage yesterday. Man what a mess... They really don't seem to know what happened to it. Cylinder walls really scored, oil pump missing one of the bearings, the pistons looked like they were "bead blasted" on the bottom side, one of the cam's is all torn up on the end, oilers in the primary are busted off, looks like the crank is wobbling. I was talking to the tech and he said he was going to do a "run out" on the crank for the factory rep and wait to see what the factory wants to do about it.

More to follow..
