This CVO may be my last
« on: October 20, 2012, 10:11:06 PM »

We bought our Streetglide back in April. Didn't really need it as we had a 09 Roadking and a 08 Ultra Classic,  both very good bikes. Day 1 started with a brake issue, seems the detailer got something on the rear rotor and you could stand on the brake pedal and barley slow the bike. They sanded the pads and cleaned the rotor and it was fine. The bike had a strong vibration from what I thought was the motor, and I figured it would be from a tight motor that should get better after break in. The transmission had a whine from it, but I also heard the same noise from another CVO. One day while down shifting the transmission make a very loud clunk and seemed to be stuck between gears. Was able to find first gear and started riding only to realize no more whine or vibration, just a bunch of growling and high speed howling. dealer changed the fluid and said to ride the bike and see what happens and that the neutral noise was normal, but the high speed grow and howl wasn't. Well after we made a trip to Canada we had to get a new transmission. The main shaft wasn't true and had a spot on the edge where the bearing ride that could have been caused by it being dropped before installation. Shortly after the 1,000 mile service it had to have the rear cylinder lifters replace do to they sounded like 2 ball peen hammers hitting each other. After the tour pack was installed and the hidden antenna the FM reception was bad, so they moved the antenna to the tour pack after a couple trips to fix the hidden antenna, then the next week they replaced the radio, by now the new trans is howling and growling enough that volume needs to be close to half to drown it out, than we started getting a new whine sound like a wheel bearing, getting louder in the corners. Than in the first week of Sept. the dealer was told to switch the front and rear amps to see it the FM reception would get better, only they don't interchange do to the harness connectors are different, so they jumped wires instead. Now you can't hear the rear speakers above 20 mph and the system distorts below halfway. Dealer has a factory guy look into the problem when he was in town, He had the dealer replace the regulator, kickstand do to the chrome was pealing off, he said the whine was from the rear tire and it was fine, so I told him if the tire makes noise than there must be resistance and resistance makes heat and that would lead to failure so the rear tire was replaced, after I picked the bike up I went to a car audio shop and had the amps tested, the max the rear would put out was 10 watts. There has been other little things during all this and on this Tuesday I'll be meeting with the owners as they have offered a buy back at msrp. The down side is they don't want the extras we have put on so I'll be posting those things after we have finalized the deal. This dealer has been good through out all these problems and I understand they sold the bike to us and didn't build it. But this engine has a knock developing and I know of 2 other CVO Streetglide's that were bought within a month of mine, 1 had to have the engine replaced and the 2nd with 2500 miles has had both engine and transmission replaced.

Good thing you have a good dealer.  I've never had a lemon like that but after your story it's easy to why we have lemon laws!  Good luck with the whole situation.

Mine was also made in April. No problems so far, knock on wood!!

moscooter, after  looking back over my thread, your right, should have put more thought in breaking up the history of the story line.
Sure have enjoyed having this bike, all though getting the rear shocks adjustment setting right took some time, I liked the air ride from my old bikes more.

It sucks to buy a lemon, but you can search any product and find the same type story (BMWs, Mercedes, Chevy trucks, Samsung TVs, etc....you name it and someone has had a bad experience).  Hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction.

Glad to hear the dealer has offered to buy back at MSRP...least they could do for a lemon like that.  Sorry to hear you had all those problems.  Except for the recall (sorry, product program) on the regulator, no issues.  BUT, you mentioned the kickstand and chrome coming off.  I, too, have noticed my kickstand chrome and it's pealing/cracking plus the "boot tab" is very suspicious as it's easy to move and I have to bend it back at times.  I have NEVER had this issue in the past so must be a manufacture issue with the part.

Thanks for mentioning your kickstand issues in you original post as I thought it might just be something with my bike... :2vrolijk_21:

No good, that's one bad experience to have with a new bike, especially one of HD's premium bikes. I hope it works out for you.

That is a terrible story. As an attorney, you have a Lemon Law case. you may want to consult a local lemon law atty.

You have a great dealership to offer to take it back without the prodding of an attorney.  Most of them would take you the whole nine yards before buying it back.

I agree it is nightmare of a story!
