Small change to exhaust
« on: October 21, 2012, 09:56:31 AM »

I am planning a small change to my stock skunk exhaust. Told the dealer I want to keep the noise about the same - a little louder is OK - but want to improve on heat and low end performance if possible - I don't want to lose any power/tourque down low.
Anyway he gave me a quote and I looked through the 2013 parts book but could not find the part listed in the quote.

I am getting rid of the cat and replacing it with the following HD Headpipes P-Dual 10-11FL. Keeping the rest stock.

I am hoping this with a tune will give me at least the same or slightly better performance - losing nothing on the low end (I enjoy the current acceleration).

Does anyon have any knowledge of this part? Will it do what I am hoping for as well as reducing heat?

Thanks in advance for any help!

that is the vance and hines power dual - similar but more bux to a fullsac x pipe

both will "technically" void the engine warranty, both will work

That is a Vance & Hines header.
They are very nice headers and give more power but it looks like this:

I would put on a Fullsac header. They use you stock heat shields and the bike will look the same but run a lot cooler and have more power.

Yes it appears stock by reusing the OEM heat shields. :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Texas Fat Boy - WOW - thanks for putting up the pics - I really prefer the stock look. The V&H looks like it gets in the way a bit. I think I'll keep looking. Getting close to storage time - maybe Fulsac next spring if I can get it done somewhere up here!

Thanks all for the comments.

Save yourself a couple hundred dollar bills and remove the stock head pipe and take it to a local shop. Have them cut a patch in the side where the CAT is and then remove the CAT and weld it back up. Completely stock looking, better sound, better perfromance and spend the couple hundred dollar bils on gas for the ride.

I did it myself,,,,, soooooo it's got to be pretty easy.

X3.  Also, you can remove the stock "plug" in the SE mufflers on that Skunk.  Here's the link.

Im going to put the Fulsac Sportpipe and a SE tuner on the misses 13 SERK.  $279 is a great price for the pipe.

Replacing the exhaust does not void the engine warrenty.  It does not matter if it is emissions compliant or not.

Now, if you did a stage 1 or 2 with no tune and had an engine failure due to a lean condition, that is another story, but the addition of aftermarket components does not mean an automatic void on the warrenty.

Remember the warrenty covers defective parts and workmanship.  If you destroy an engine because of a lean condition after performing a stage 1 or 2, that wasnt caused by a defective part or workmanship, and would not be covered under the warrenty.

If you spin a crank bearing, that would be pretty hard to attribute to an aftermarket exhaust.
