Batwing Inserts
« on: October 24, 2012, 06:43:02 PM »

2006 SEUC brass inserts that fit into the inner faring along the top that the windshield sets down on and the screws that hold the outer faring in place there. Now I am confused. How deep into the inner faring should those inserts be when properly positioned? Anyone wanting the whole story just let me know and I will go into it in more detail.

They go into a molded stud of the inner fairing. If one has pulled out you won't be able to glue it back in, it won't hold.
It has happened to me before and I went to home depot, bought  new ones with a bigger outside diameter and forced them into the hole.

The dealer sells a kit to replace the old one with a larger insert, same size bolt is used.

When I bought my 05 SEEG I didnt find that the center insert was not holding in place.  I tried the glue method and it didnt work, went to the dealer and they pulled out a new larger insert, drilled the inner fairing a tiny bit and slid the new insert in and all was well.

The replacement inserts for the top 3 that squeeze the windshield are the same as the lower 4 that hold the outer shell to the bike. The top 3 from the factory are knurled and come out in time. The replacements like the lower 4 are threaded, the inner fairing will need to be tapped so you can install them.
