Denim Paint on 2012 CVO FLSTSE3
« on: October 24, 2012, 07:24:32 PM »

I left for Daytona at 6 am last Saturday and it was a cold morning.  I was so cold that I had my knees pressed against the gas tank for a time while riding and I`ve noticed that I now have some buffed out areas where the matte look is shiny.  It is right at the spot where my jeans were rubbing the paint.  I can`t believe that the denim finish is so thin!  Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Well, my experience has been the exact opposite as yours.  'where the paint is shiny on my red bike, those areas where my knees evidently rest are now quite dull.  'a little bit of rubbing it out does the trick however.

I ride a lot with a passenger and where the passengers seat rubs the fender at time there are shinny spots, kind of outlines where the seat is when you take the seat off to ride solo. any fixes for repairing the paint?

My opinion on the Denim rub-thru - It adds character.  I have seen some try to repair it, and it looks like chit.

Dealer had a used Blue Denim Street Glide.  Was real cheep cause someone had tried to "fix" paint chips ect.  Bike needed a paint job badly.  I thought about buying it and going after it with a Scotch-Brite pad to see what would happen  :D

Hi, my legs have never pressed against the tank and my 2012 satin pewter tank has the same spots in the same area on the right side of the tank. I also have a spot in a different area of the tank. In fact, I noticed them a few days after I bought the bike. I can only see them at a certain a angle though so I don't worry about it. My friend didn't notice them until I asked him to view the tank at a certain angle. What do you expect for $30k? Just kidding... This is my last H-D the quality and customer service from H-D is just pathetic.

I agree with it adding character.
When I see a bike with the dull spots on both sides of the tank, I know that rider is "riding" the bike, not just sitting on it site seeing by motorcycle.
Not saying that's a bad thing either, to each his own.

I have gotten comfortable with it.  Complaining will not do any good anyway....it`s not very noticeable,  but I would still prefer a finish that would not wear so easily.

Must be some really rough jeans  :nixweiss:
I have 11150 miles on mine this year, and No issues. this is my third Denim finish bike, and had no problems with any of them.
