HP/TQ
« on: October 25, 2012, 09:12:23 AM »

My misses 13 SERK dyno'd at 84.5 hp and 103 tq bone stock..

She wants to modify the exhaust, like me the baby farts coming out of the pipes are killing her.  She believes that loud pipes save lives, I believe that loud pipes piss off the neighbors, but thats another conversation.

Im thinking about Fulsac 1 3/4 cores and a Fulsac sportpipe with a tuner.

My questions:

1.  Will these mods reduce the torque?  It seems I see alot of bikes with exhaust mods that have increased hp, but reduced tq.

2.  I have the PCV-retrofit on my 06 and am very impressed with it.  With only these mods will the PCV be a good choice for her 13 SERK, of course the dealer recommends the SE race tuner?  She will never allow me to open up the engine and do any other work, so exhaust and tuning is all her bike is getting.  (That leaves more $ for my bike!)

Loose TQ? Quite the opposite. Dyno charts and terminology gets confusing. This is a before after Stage I dyno chart from a CVO bagger.
Ignore the peak numbers and look at the big curved line that crosses the top of the page. Look at 3K RPM. That's quite an improvement right where you ride.
Now it has a TQ curve as opposed to the stock line below that is more of a TQ ditch. Guys post all the time that they want a flat TQ line.
Actually you don't want it flat. That would be a TQ plateau, not nearly as good as a TQ curve.

PVC? I seen Fred and Barney use one of those on an episode of the Flintstones. TTS is best. or if you have to, Race Tuner.

I hope this info helps

Ive seen more than one dyno sheet where exhaust only mods netted greater hp and reduced tq.

I know that one can have to little backpressure.

Somebody must have really bought some junk to make the stock TQ line even worse.

Usually when that happens it's because they stuck open pipes on the bike and then did a lousy job tuning it (if they really tuned it at all).  Used to see a lot of what you mentioned many years ago when short straight pipes were the rage, but not on a properly engineered exhaust system.

If you want good results with the least hassle, and prefer to deal with a vendor with proven integrity, you would be hard pressed to do better than the Fullsac package including the TTS and Steve's map.  As for which baffle size to go with, he can probably offer some help making that choice as well.
