Along with what grc (Jerry) said try listening to another scooter (Harley), and if possible another 110ci one (my guess is it's going to be normal valve train noise also). If the sound is the same/similar then ride it like you stole it.

That dOOd is right on!
A friend of mine called me a few months ago to talk about his motor.
He hadn't ridden it for about 5 months and said that it was ticking real bad and was worried it was going to blow up.
He only lives a mile away and said he would ride it over to my house.
I hopped on his and he got on mine and off to the belt loop around Charlotte we went.
After a few miles I realized there were no problems with his motor, it sounded normal for a Harley.
We stopped at a store and he said to me, Chip yours is about to blow up also, it sounds just like mine.
Bottom line,
It's a unique sound and once you get use to it remember, it will tell on itself when there's a problem!
