Stage 1
« on: October 25, 2012, 02:14:37 PM »

As a newbie to the forums I'm sure this topic has been beat to death a few times. Anyways I'm a new owner of a 2013 CVO  Road king I ordered the Fullsac X pipe and the 2 inch muffler cores this am.
When it comes time my dealer wants to use the screaming eagle pro race tuner that they say will not void warranty ,But if I use a TTS it would void warranty so they say. I on the other hand would like to use the TTS Tuner thinking that I'm sure I'd me more than happy with Steve's map for the tune and could put off a Dyno for some time. I have not purchased the ESP yet but plan to get the 3 year plan.
Guess I'm concerned about what can happen to a engine and what would cause warranty work from a stage one (if anything) It might come down to how comfortable do I feel using TTS to upload a map, or letting the dealer use the SE pro tuner
I'm pretty sure here in Canada there is no Warranty Act

my head hurts at times over this !!!!!

The dealer is blowing smoke up your Ass. Using either could have warranty implications. With the TTS however you can save the original calibration file that is in the bike now and if you needed to take it in for work put it back at a later date.

The person who fed you that BS is a liar, and you should keep that in mind if you have reason to deal with him in the future.  I don't know about you, but I have absolutely no use for people who lie to me in an attempt to sell me their product.  If he wanted to try to sell you on the SEPST instead of the TTS by listing actual facts related to the features, ease of use, etc. then that's fine.  To try to sell you through fear of voiding your warranty however is not acceptable, period.

Modifying the engine management system with any device or software, including the stuff sold by Harley-Davidson, violates emission laws and can also void the powertrain and emission system parts of the warranty.  The SEPST Harley sells specifically states it is for off road racing use only.  Contact H-D Corporate, or the Canadian importer in your case, and ask them to give you that same BS in writing.  They won't, because it isn't true.  If you want the straight scoop on warranty issues, contact the entity offering the warranty and don't listen to some liar in a dealership trying to generate a commission.  And don't just assume you don't have legal protections like we have in the USA with our Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.  Check with the Canadian government, and I'll bet you also have similar consumer protection laws.
