4   INCH PIPES
« on: August 28, 2006, 11:37:58 PM »

I cranked up an 07 and the sound is better than normal stock but not quite where I want it. Does anyone know if any aftermarket 4 inchers are being made? I love the look of the 4 inch and the end caps and dont want to change them. Waiting for them to wear in to a good sound could take a couple of years. The bigger pipes look so good on the CVO. IDEAS????????????

Have you taken the tuning tube out of the muffler yet?  (3 spot welds visible when you take the end cap off) grind them off with a dremel (about 15 minutes per muffler) and the tube will slide out.

Sound good and have done this myself.

Well, not as loud as Rineharts.  But then again, fishtail straights would be even louder if you're looking for loud.  Also, the price is right.  If you're not happy with the sound, you can still go out and buy what you want.  Beats spending the 750+ and then having to live with it while grumbling through your smile.  Not to mention you have to go with the stepped header pipes to really get any performance out of them.  Otherwise you'll lose hp + tq.

Hint, after you've got the welds ground down, clamp on a pair of visegrips and fire the motor to get the mufflers expanding a bit. NOT TOO Long or they'll get hot.  Don't want that.  Do it in the garage and the wifey will be coming out saying your rattling stuff off the walls.  Besides, you want to be able to hear the tunes right?

Cheers, J

The 07 SEUC has the o2 sensors in the head pipes.  It already comes with a stage 1 on it and with the 02 sensors in the pipes, will sense the flow and make adjustments accordingly.

Oh, by the way...if you do this...leave the mufflers on the bike.  It makes it easier using the bikes weight to your advantage when wiggling and pulling on the tube.  Also, this only takes about 30 minutes per pipe (if that) so your beer wont even get cold.   ;)

Cheers,
J

mack,

I was just trying to alert folks that the H-D closed-loop system is not designed to self tune to compensate for performance mods.

On a stock 06 UCSE, does pulling the tuning tubes out make it leaner than it already is?  Do you run the risk of doing damge running it this way long term?

Thanks,

john
